Justin. I take it I can load it on my Garmin 1310 as it has a microSD slot in it. If not do I copy it on to one somehow at home. Bit of a novice with this satnav pre- programming

Yes I have it on a micro SD card, so should be fine

Excellent.
I'll just copy a few details onto a bit of old cornflake packet cardboard and blu-tac it onto the handlebar clamp, in my usual style.
...and rejoice in the few hundred quid saved.

Does that actually work Utopia? I intend to sellotape the route to Arrow onto my arm!

Ah - there's me thinking I might get the "Luddite Of The Year" award - it appears I may have competition.

I need some lessons. I guess I will have to wait until I see you. I copied your map, well saved as on a MicroSD card but when I try and look for it on the Garmin I cannot find anything.

New technology to me :on::on::scratch:

Errrr no! I'm in the running too, I'm taping the route to the inside of my visor...

Please explain, I thought the ride to Prescot was a group event where a leader rides the route and the rest follow. Has this now turned into a test of navigation skills:confused:

No Capo, but some people like to know where they're going and if, god forbid, they get lost, they can find there way there.

Works a treat for me.
Last time I left the same piece of card where it was for two consequetive monthly bike meets.
I do have it out of the wind behind a small screen though, and rain might not be good.
You need a good system though. Mine has three columns...1) road number 2) selected towns en route or location of next change of road 3) mileage to each point en route listed in column 2 (handy to anticipate next junction, or asses progress in general).
It's usually a short enough list to fit on the bar clamp if you're concise and only include info that is absolutely neccessary. On longer journeys I use a similar, but larger note in the map pocket of my tankbag, in addition to a map which I can no longer read unless I stop and search for the reading glasses that I have invariably left at home.
Actually, I find it a much more straightforward and simple to use system than a sat nav (I've borrowed one once or twice).
Not Luddite, more like appropriate technology...and economical...and environmentally sound (no electronic waste and the cornflake packet is obviously recycled).
And it makes me grin.

I'm planning on sticking a picture of some beautiful countryside scenery on the back of slob's helmet so I get the full panoramic vista. But please don't anyone tell him.

No its just in case and things have happened in the past and 50% get lost. Its like everyones got a phone nowadays but we dont all use them. Good to be prepared though.

50% got lost  think I might bring my fishing rod and spend the day on the river at the mill.

Lost is probably the wrong word. Split up from the lead pack due to the pace and very large number of around 60 bikes. It all got sorted very easily as some people knew the way back. You wanna fish at the Mill thats fine. Much sooner get to Prescott knowing the way though.:D:D

Damn I don't have a screen anymore. Utopia, I have failed, it will come off in the wind and stick to the outside of my visor.

Mand, you're a genius. A slightly insane one but a genius nevertheless.

Nonnie,

You could always have the route tattooed on the inside of your eyelids

Which way round are you going, clockwise or anticlockwise??
Just thinking I might go and hang around at aschurch and join in from there so a rough time would be nice.

J.P

The Sunday rideout will be anti-clockwise

Is it just me or did you actually make a street circuit around fish hill?? "The Fish hill 200"

Thanks, got them both in the GPS (manually since I'm the stupid one that bought a Tomtom rider - need to replace it with a garmin soon)

See you in a day or two,
Jan,

Same here, I've pulled out of the Prescott ride out because of it.
