I have just dicovered that there is a Bikesafe course being run by the Avon & Somerset Police force at Castle Combe race curcuit on June 4th.

There are other attractions during the day including stunt riders, bike displays, bike shop stands etc. Entry is free for spectators as well.

You will need to wear a 1 piece leather or zip together 2 piece for the event and have a bike under the 105Db noise limit.

For full details, check it out on;
http://www.bikesafe.co.uk/Events/Article/Castle-Combe-Event.aspx or at http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/operations_and_initiatives/ride_to_arrive/bikesafe_event.aspx

Is anyone interested in going? If so, please post your name below.

The Wilshire police ones are free, but of course you don't get 15 mins of track time.

Wilts police are running the usual series of Bikesafe courses this year again - and as Stafford says, free of charge.

I was talking to Colin Reeves (Wilts co-ordinator) last week and he says they are well subscribed this year so you'll need to put your name down on the waiting list - well worth it.

I realise Wilts ones are free as they always have been, but this one has the attraction of Castle Combe track to play on and also bike displays, stunt riders etc to watch and enjoy as well. I thought it was well worth the money myself and would love it if a few of us did it together. :D

Bex,
If you click on the second link (Avon and Somerset Police) in post No 1 of this thread, you can download a PDF file from the bottom right hand corner and send it in with your cheque. I will however give them a call tomorrow to see how many places they have left and then post on here advising the most available time slot. That should then hopefully mean we can all get on together.

Would we be better for morning or afternoon, if there is still a choice?

Albie, Bring the moped for a run out........

I've got a party the night before, and a wedding later in the day on the Saturday, but I'll try and make it along at some point as it's only 20 minutes from home.

I've filled the form in and so has my good lady on her ER6F.
Please be aware they are very strict on noise levels at Castle Combe and they test your bike before allowing you on track. 105db is the limit.
I did a track day a couple of years ago when I had an XJR1300 with modified but still fairly quiet can and just got through and a couple of guys got turned away with standard un modified bikes, no refunds :hissy:

Could have been on for that but have to go to a Superyacht regatta in Sardinia that weekend. It's a tough life...

Right folks, for those that would like to do the day, they currently have 90 spaces available. These are mainly morning spaces.
If you fill your own form out and send it off with a cheque, make sure you write on it "Please group with the other UKMOC riders", they will put us all together.
There will be about 20 Police bikes there on the day and each will take two riders out onto the road at a time for an hours ride, then you will do the track part of it.

I propose we put 10am approximately on each form

Please post on here once you have filled your form in and posted it.

Just for info and to wet your appetite.
All the South west dealers will be there including Riders, Bransons, Fowlers, Bath Rd Motorbikes, Bristol Kawasaki, Blade Honda, V & J Superbikes, Art Dean, Morses of Weston. Fast Bike Magazine will be there (See 7 page article in May 6th issue) along with Quay Garage and Tommy Bridewell. There will also be over 30 other trade stands and shows from Steve "Showman" Colley.
Hope I can get over as a spectator.

I can confirm that my form has been sent off as well now.

Castle Combe will check your bike for loudness beforehand if you take it there. :D They also have a list of 'naughty bikes' that they know will fail. These include all 1198's and most 1098 engined bikes! If you want your bike checked, Rob Jones is the man.

Only on days when they have circuit activity Bex, those being tomorrow, next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Max 105db (measured 1/2 metre from the exhaust outlet at 3/4 max revs) won't be easy for most Dukes so I'll be interested in the result of your noise test.

Mmm - it does sound like a plan. i will consider it. However Saturday is my birthday and I have a posh night out planned with lots of fine wine. I am not sure I want to get up early on Sunday.
And the EVO is really loud on standard cans - I am not sure it will pass noise testing.

The Evo does have a lovely exhaust note, but will pass for sure, so no worries there. It is on the Saturday Anne, not Sunday.

Aha - I am an idiot. You would think I would have recognised the date!

I can't do Saturday - I have already arranged to spend it with the family.
Enjoy the day.

Got my confirmation from Phil (police) that I'm booked (!) and to report for registration at 10:00.
I shalll be accompanied by officers at 11:00. Best behaviour then...

btw my 696 with open termis was measured by Castle Combe at 109dB.
Stuffing the performance killers in reduces it to 101.5dB

Just got back from what has to be the best £25 I can remember spending. Great Police rider who was a true biker for the rideout, thanks Kevin from Devon.
Then for the track experience. We had a really fast bunch mainly on 1000 fours, apart from a BMW HP2 with more carbon the Albie, but we both did Ducatis proud overtaking all but two of them! Steve was one further back trying to outgun a Kawasaki ZXR900, good try Steve. :D

Bring on Mallory now.

Couldn't agree more Rally, cheers - Brilliant day out. Riding through the twisties, overtaking as much as we could with a police FJR1300 on our tails at 85mph must have looked odd!
If I hadn't had my baffles in for the noise regs, I'd have had that ZXR... :)
