..is it just me or do most S4R owners get around 75 miles before the reserve light comes on? I know its a small tank but 75 miles is rather limiting should i want to take anywhere.

It all depends on your wrist action ;)

I Get around 120 miles before the light comes on and fill up as soon as i can after that..
I have Termignoni cans on an open airbox and dp chip fitted and have never had under 90 miles before light comes on even if going some..

Mine's totally stock. i agree about the wrist action but didnt think i was riding like a looney. Twice i've filled up and twice its about 75 miles. I will add that the mileage is not a run but several trips on differing roads trying to get use to the bike.
I wonder if it was previously set up to run with open cans etc, and maybe its running rich?

Last sunday I went out for an early moring ride with friends. i was on my S4r, we just poodled around not breaking any speed limits and being Mr sensible. I did 125 miles before the light came on and it equated to 45 to the gallon. Most days I struggle to get about 90 before the light comes on.

I managed to get 150 out of my 1100s by being relatively gentle before the light.
Worst I got on my m900 was 88 after a UKMOC mallory trackday.

I normally see the light around 115-120 miles of mixed riding, but the light lasts 15 miles! (No need to ask how I know this :grump:)
On one occasion where I knew fuel would be a problem and riding with a friend who was new to bikes and thus riding very carefully I got 150 miles to the light but don't intend to be that careful with the right wrist again :)

Think it's just a ducati thing, my smaller monster is lucky to do much over 100 miles on a tank. Of course, they made the 620 engine a bit bigger and decided it would be clever to put a smaller tank on it  Have heard rumours of bigger aftermarket tanks but they won't be cheap...plus I can't imagine where they'd put the extra fuel without making it a funny shape...maybe it could have a sort of camel hump...and you could get a standard dromedary version, or a bactrian one for touring :chuckle:

Has anyone else found the fuel light to be less-than-accurate? I ran out after only a few miles once, but there was another time it (fortunately) let me search for a petrol station for well over half an hour

All I can say about the fuel light is that you don't want to be in rural France on a Saturday evening with it lit!

desmoquattros and testastretta monsters have different sized tanks. The airbox on the testa motors is larger, so the tank is smaller. 75 until the light is normal.

Like most, I have Termis, chip, open box etc etc and get 75 - 80 to light. TIP: Sit on the bike and keep it upright when fuelling it. You will be surprised how many more miles you get/litres you get in!!

Thanks, I'll have to try that one :)

I actually ran out of fuel on thursday (in sight of a garage fortunately!) and was a little depressed to find that I could fit £16 in there...I'm sure it struggled to take £11 from empty when I first got it. And I'm assuming it's not because the tank is getting bigger :(

I managed to fit 19l in to my 18l tank on 900ss. There was about 2l in there before hand. When I mentioned it they told me to take the petrol and go.

ss ie tank is 18l right as I never got more than 16 in there.

With FCR'S my m944 does 120 in town commute, no idea on m-way have not been there testing it but after doing the 90 mile trip to PSB photo shoot I only fitted 10l barely to 19l tank.

Well I don't feel as bad now I've just read this thread. I've just had my first 2 full fill ups and only manages 109 miles until the fuel light came on, then eeked it out to just under 120 until I filled it up this morning.

This has equated to about 12 litres to fill and an averaged of 47.5mpg according to the iPhone app 'Gas Cubby' (good little app for logging all fuel and service bills too)

So I guess I'm about Mr. Average:rolleyes:

Before getting mine Dyno'd I used to get anything between 55-65 max around town and about 120 on the Mway. Since then, I seem to be getting 85-90 in town. Not checked it on a long run but really pleased with the improvement.

120 on my M600 when commuting on M & A roads at a fair pace. I do wish the Monster had a bigger tank!

When commuting I get about 100 miles before the light comes on, on an S2r 1000, and can put about 11 litres in. This week when returning from Le Mans the light came on at 140+ and managed 170+ before I got fuel into her. I was riding around the speed limits 70 to 90 which seems to suits the bike and me when travelling longer distances.
I was getting similar distances to Ladybird on her M900sie with my 14 litre tank, 2 litres less than hers.:p

My S4Rs today at the Mallory trackday managed to go from brim full to empty in 54 miles! Now that takes some beating................

I do a 44 mile round trip to work. Funny enough I experimented this week and kept the bike between 55 and 60 everywhere. Reserve light came on at 174 just as I was coming into my home town. I know that if I continue at those speeds I can get another 25 miles from the reserve, so 200 mile from a 14l tank isnt too bad, but to remain disciplined and keep at 55/60 just isnt going to happen !

M600 silmotor pipes standard apart from that ridden like an idiot 90% of the time. Fuel light on at 160k's generally another 3 or 4 litres in there. I hate running out of fuel.....
