J.P

Can I make a very early suggestion, (weather dependant)
1) To get to breakfast a little earlier for a nice relaxed chat.
2) Go for a ride somewhere, even if it's just a country loop.

3) And then on the way home, I'll then be visiting this brand new bike shop to buy something !!

http://spiritoftheseventies.com/

Thie open day is April 10th, 12pm-5pm, and just round the back of Brands Hatch.

I've got to say, that I don't normally like old things, bikes I mean, but looking at that Spirit I 750 cc Twin did get my cockles going.
I even phoned them for a quote.........£7,000 to £10,000 depending on spec.
And undoubtedly I'd be at the £10,000 end of that... :)))))

The garage opening is from 12pm till 5pm so plenty of time.
We could meet for breafast at 10am, have a relaxed breakfast and got for a good hour or so ride before getting back to the garage.

Hi JP,

As you said before a nice loop of Kent would be good, i looked at map and thought through Maidstone A274 to biddenden, A262 to Lamberhurst, B2169 round Tunbridge wells, then pick up road to bough beech, ide hill back towards otford and then onto west kingsdown/brands hatch to bike shop.

I am trying to sort sat nav as having trouble with broken mount, i dont mind leading but will wing it if no sat nav !

Just fitted new battery so ready to go.

See you at Cafe.

Hi,

I made it home and still have air in the tyre, I've been looking at Google maps and I think the pothole in question was on the B2169 at Bells Yew Green. Is that road on your Sat Nav route JP?

It was an interesting moment but all over too quick for me to claim any skill in staying on it, luck was the only thing that kept the rubber side down. Hitting a big pothole with the bike leant over is not a pleasent experience.

Glad you all had a good ride other than the close one by Andy. I had a easy day and managed to save a few quid at B&Q to benefit you all at my BBQ if it happens. If not it will benefit me and caroline. More space and more light.

Hope bikes ok Andy

I'm fine, the wheel rim is an interesting new shape, when I drop the front wheel out I'll need to check the forks, yokes and head bearings but hopefully the wheel is the only damage.
It was definately after the A21 junction but I'm not 100% I found the right place on google maps, I should have stopped to take some photos but it didn't occur to me until we were miles away and I'd forgotten my iPhone.

Give Shuffy a PM for the Guys that straightened his rim out for £70. They are in Aylesford. Worth a check there first.

I think that might be the one Andy. Just tracked it down via google earth and road looks familiar although pothole fee due to age of photo's. It was definately on the exit from a bridge under what I suspected was a railway, and this fits the description. If J.P can confirm the location try to get some pictures, and put in a claim to KCC for compensation.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=51.105829,0.293155&spn=0,0.00626&t=h&z=18&layer=c&cbll=51.105868,0.293022&panoid=qCLr8W41I1CRYtjICh98JA&cbp=12,301.14,,0,6.35

That pothole was rediculous. I saw you hit it and swerved to one side at last moment just catching the edge, but that was bad enough and nearly had me off as well. I think it must have been 3-4 foot long and several inches deep at least. The roads were a joke today - a minefield of potholes everywhere we went :grump:

ok, almost certain it was just outside of Frant Railway station, on the Bayham Road, B2169, if you google map it, street view, you can see it easily, if that's where it happened.

Well done J.P

That was the google link I posted up earlier by the way. The pothole was in the shadow cast by the bridge on the exit so difficult to spot

And he's not riding for a while as he goes in for a back operation at the end of next week and will be out of action for at least a month.

When is Module 2, Dan ?
Sorry only just read this. I booked my mod 2 the other day! Monday 9th May. So depending on how confident I feel afterwards, going on the motorway may be a bit premature. I have done some dual carriageway riding though between Bromley and Gillingham and Bromley and Belvedere. Doing the test in Belvedere due to a long waiting list for the Croydon test centre.

Alas that was my last ride out for a while....sustanined a broken fibia when hit by a citroen saxo making a right hand turn in my path...ho hum was just going into Horsham and the Piazza Italia event as well.

At least 6 weeks in plaster with no weight on my right leg....bike did't look too great last time i saw it either.

But i'm here to tell the tale i guess...ride safe guys n gals

Thanks guys,appreciate your comments

Busted fibula and 6 weeks or so in plaster but could have been worse i guess..the front end of Monster took a big impact so i think it could be curtains for it.

Its at a vehicle recovery pound at the mo so not sure if i will see it again....11 years old almost and with the price of Ducati spares, suspect its a write off.

Did't see too much as i was on my back and unable to move...a bike paramedic was actualy behind me so saw the whole thing and a another witness did too so no worries on that score

MCE and their claims assist/legal dept service are on the case and seemed pretty confident i will be well taken care of compensation wise.

Also was very impressed with the Police and NHS,could't have done more for me.
