View Full Version : Cutting out?

Hello,

Since last Sunday at Nelsons when Duncan kindly pointed out that the baffle on my already noisy exhaust was easily removable, and then some hooligan (not mentioning names... STUART) whipped out an allen key while I wasn't looking and did the job, the engine seems to be cutting out occasionally when its idling or at low revs when I've just set off/am warming up.

I meant to get it tuned/fuelling checked when I got the new exhaust on, but was waiting for it to settle itself into place a bit first as there was a bit of air blowing out here and there at the joints, then I just never got around to it.

Is this a sign it needs looking over now? Seems like its not getting enough juice or something?

have you tried putting the baffle back in?

failing that get the chap concerned to sort it out for you

(don't tell him i said that though)

Na I haven't, I know thats whats caused it though. It only started happening once we took it out. Just kind of peters out and dies.... eg this morning at a junction just a few mins from my flat. Its fine if I keep the revs up.

By sort it out you mean pay the Rosso Corse bill? I agree, that would be the right thing for him to do

Just needs the fueling sorted. Is it a full system?

Yep 2 into 1

Is the fueling that easy to do on these new bikes ? I'm not so sure.
What with lambda sensors & engine management chips, I'm not convinced a twidle with a screwdriver will fix it. Though I hope it does for you RJ.

Cheers JP, not the end of the world really can just put the baffle back in if its a trouble... its a bit obscene anyway!

Maybe it's time for a Power Commander?

I'm all for garages like Rosso Corse and the like, but the more that modern bikes become like modern day cars, unless you have all the electronic gizmo's, I just don't know what they can do.
If the fueling is now different, as the baffle is out, then you need to adjust the fuel.air mixture. To do that properly you need to reprogram the chip, and to reprogram the chip I assume you need to have proper Ducati access to the software, surely...????... :)

And the Power Commander WILL cure all your problems and improve the fueling no end. BUT, as I know, you've have to replace the ECU for a Ducati Performance chip for about £800 alone.

MR can now reprogram the original chip i think with there computer stuff

Rosso Corse have all the stuff needed to do this

Judging from the replies I think the cheapest option is to stick the baffle back in :chuckle:

Sorry Bex,
Meant to mention the remap thingy but the obscenely pleasant howl of your Zorst distracted me

Not your fault at all Duncan! I should've taken it in before now anyway to be honest, just slightly more pressing now. Might stick baffle back in till I get a chance to get it looked at.

And indeed it is a pleasant howl

I think what Char meant to say is..

She gets a suitably qualified chap to twiddle it for her

Maybe it's time for a Power Commander?

The problem with the new Monsters is at low RPM and low throttle opening the ECU is closed loop and this sounds like where the problem is. In this area any fueling modification applied with a supplimental fueling module (Rapid Bike/Power commander e.t.c.) will be tuned back out by the siemens ECU monitoring the Lamda sensors. Outside the closed loop mapping area a PC V would work normally.

I think there are devices to fool the ECU by modifiying or replacing the sensor signals or the expensive route of getting a custom re-flash using a Rexxer for example for the ECU deleting the closed loop completely and either including a custom map or allowing the whole range to be tuned with a supplimental fueling module.

If it would be helpful I can dig up a few links.

hey bex.

as others on have said its a fuel problem
sounds like wen running at idle fuel mixture is lean and also wen u start to rev it,
i would think it would still be lean at full rpm as well.
ecu remap, or power commander to sort it out with a run on a dyno.

Sometimes basic carburettors can be a real advantage

Hope you get it sorted Bex - I know J.P had a nightmare setting his S4R up for the Zards

The Culprit was caught on camera. AS mentioned sounds like fueling/ remapping is needed..
