I need some advice on oil for my bike plz folks, its an S2R 800.

I bought 4 litre of Rock Oil fully synthetic 15W50 racing oil as an alternative to the Shell Advance 4 product.

I think I should have got Rock Oil’s 10W40 Synthesis fully synthetic instead?

Can anyone advice if I should go swap this 15W50 plz?

fully synth is NOT what you want
you will likely experience clutch slip

swap for the 10w 40 semi synthetic (wrx JASO is ok but i think the Gaurdian is the better one to go for but others on here will know better)

I know Rock oil do a fully synth with additives for wet clutches, but I would still go for a semi synth.

Thanks for all your advice ppl, yep I have heard about fully synth causing slip somtimes, Shells advance 4 is full synth too but maybe its formulated to deal with the wet APTC cluch on my bike. wish I had bought Sell now.

I run Semi synth in both my aircooled Wet clutch Ducatis M750 and 750SS and fully synthetic in the water cooled 4v S4 .

I got really bad clutch slip on my M600 after using Shell advance full synth

My advice would be to steer clear of full synth on wet clutch bikes. Many have anti friction/wear additives in them now, which won't do a wet clutch any favours at all. I've heard of owners having to replace clutches on jap sports bikes after using certain oils. The additives can contaminate the friction plates making them useless. Good quality semi synth or mineral oil changed regularly, should be more than enough for an 800 monster. It also costs less meaning that more regular changes don't break the bank. I currently use Mobil 10/40 semi synth in the trike which I replace every 3000 miles, with a filter change at 6000 miles.

Swaped the full synth 15w50 Rock racing oil for basic 4 stroke 10w40 full synth, its still Rock oil brand. I will reply about how it performs when I get round to doing the oil change.

I am sure my local dealer used to use Rock Oil instead of Shell up until a couple of years ago, don't know if shell/ducati had told them off.

Used the rock oil 10w40 fully synth in my m600. No probs. But its very expensive and halfords have a deal on at the minute......
