Prepare the surface well, use acid etch primer, lots of thin coats of heat resistant paint.

The last job I did using high temp paint was Louise's engine. I did'nt use any primer because if the primer fails due to high temp then all that hard work you have done comes off aswell. Also the high temp paints have a longer drying time so bit more patience is needed when being applied.
I had a small fan heater blowing warm air on to the job and just moved it when another coat was needed.
