As you guys will be aware, on the 3rd of April there will be another ride of respect for British troops.
I attended last year with other members of the club, and supported the event.

Rather than attended the same event this year, I am suggesting we do our own version with a ride to the coast, visiting Fort Nelson on the heights above Portsmouth, followed with a ride into the town to the historical sea front. During the day we find we will donate £10 each to the Heroes fund.
A suitable meeting point will be orginised once an idea of attendees is established.

Looked at the web site + vids and it looks like a good day out and a way of supporting H4H in our own way.
I will double check my diary and comfirm but 99% sure its clear.

(would be on the multi if both of us come)

As a suggestion, if you've already paid your tenner, your donations been made, so would you rather loon around the roads to/from Portsmouth, plus eat ice cream by the sea or sit on your bike on an airfield waiting !!:spin:

James, I think it's a great idea! We were already going to do an alternative ride to the coast that day and donating a tenner to H4H.

As you say, even if folks have already booked and paid for the Wootton Bassett ride, there is nothing to stop them joining 'Grumpy's Battlefield Tours' as they've done their bit and already donated.

Ice cream mmm!

James,
I think it is a great shame that you have organised this trip on the same day as the Wootten Bassett run. If you had ever been to Wootten Bassett High Street for a repatriation ceremony, you would understand that it isn't just the money for Charity that is important, but more so the attendance and support.
Let's face it, the logo says; 'Support for our Heroes', not money. The town people and families of those brave people that have given the ultimate sacrifice would love to have you all there on the day. If our soldiers can lay around a dessert for days or weeks on end, surely the least we can do is stand on an airfield to wait our turn to show our respect? It's not much to ask.

I would urge you to reconsider your trip date, maybe for the Saturday and then join the run on the Sunday. I'm sure your trip will be most enjoyable, one that I would also like to attend, but surely we could all do it together on another day.

I support you in your planning and please don't take this personnally, but it would mean so much to Wootten Bassett to have those extra Monsters parade through the High Street. I'll leave it with you. :)

The whole point of organising a separate ‘Monster’ event is so that the people of Wootton Bassett actually have a few less bikes riding through the town and we contribute fully to the cause. Last year’s event was very well supported but not very well organised (a 10.30 slot meant not leaving the airfield until 2.00pm?). With 10,000(?) bikes riding through the town at 30 minute intervals, the town was gridlocked for the day.

Everyone knows the ultimate sacrifice which our armed forces make, and I myself have a 22 year old son in the Navy. I would be happier contributing my £10 entirely to the H4H fund than a proportion of the money going towards ‘organisational costs’ and wrist bands again at Wootton Bassett. We would be able to have a good day ‘ride-out’ and still feel we had ‘done our bit’.

Liz, The 'ride of respect' is not fully commited as yet with just 7600 bikes so far. We are allowed 10000 in total. The organisers are aware of last years issues with queueing and this was due to 15000 bikes coming through the gates and will now not allow anyone into the airfield if their time slot has expired or they don't have a ticket. This will in turn speed the event up for 2011.
The event is run completely by volenteers and NO costs go to administration. Even if costs did go to admin, they would be the same whether it be 7600 bikes or 10000. As to the bands, you can pay extra if you like as your donation can be what you like, or opt out of a band should you wish for the extra to go into the fund.

We all have a voice, as well as a choice. I'm simply expressing mine. ;)

poop deck - how appropriate Gary, well glad to hear we all live in a free country still but not about to air my opinions here. Anyway will be joining the 'alternatives' if it still goes ahead.

Love to all

There are rumours that may be the case, but no confirmation as yet.

As of September'ish of this year the fallen are to return to Brize Norton. The route will then only follow the A40 and will not pass through towns or villages en route. So this may be the last one if you take that into consideration.

As the interest in the alternative run is growning, I thought it would be a good idea to start getting an idea of who's coming so we can orginise a suitable meeting point.

Please add your name to the list below:

Grumpy.

As I say Grumps, would love to go, really really would, and can completely understand having an alternative to the day, but speaking only for me personally I'll be heading on the Wootton Bassett run... hopefully it'll be much more organised and they have a better grasp on numbers, but regardless it's just my own way of showing my support for the troops.

Hope you guys have a great day, will ring from our chilly windy noisy runway :) get some good pics!

Time 9.30 O'clock for a 10 leaving time.
