Looks very sorted Jenny.

I'm guessing those are extra tanks its wearing - what is fuel capacity like with them fitted? Oh and what make/model is it?

JMo
11-12-2010, 10:48 AM
Hi Gary - it's a Yamaha WR450F, with a rally tank and fairing kit made by JVO racing (Spanish company).

The twin front tanks hold 10 litres a side (nice and low for weight distribution and more clearance for your knees), plus there are two auxiliary tanks - a 5 litre plastic one over the rear fender and left hand side panel, and a custom aluminium one between the twin front tanks giving another 5 litres, so 30 litres in total.

The fuel tap also allows me to switch between front / centre and rear tanks depending on how I would like the weight distributed - in sand for example it's usually better to empty the front tanks first to keep the front end as light as possible.

The two smaller tanks below the fairing on either side of the bash-plate are water tanks, as the rules stipulate you have to carry 3 litres of emergency water on board - although I wouldn't want to drink it after it's been boiling next to the engine for hours!

Julie, yes I am on facebook, I had to join it to see something a friend had put on I was looking for. I have never posted on it, I can't use it, don't like it and never go plan to go back. I keep getting odd emails telling me I might like to see my friends again. I wish to reply telling them they were friends before facebook and will be after.
It really is getting annoying now. :(

Just a quick hello - in five days I'll be flying to Buenos Aires - if Gatwick bloody Airport is open of course!

If you've not had a chance to visit the website, please do: www.jennydakar.com as it has all the links you need to follow my progress during the race - live tracking (I'm Moto #173), phone-ins to Rally Raidio (online) and thanks to Julie, I even have my own Facebook page which she has kindly offered to update with any tit-bits I can send back while I'm away...

Merry Christmas, and hope to see you all in the New Year - I might even dust off the Monster next spring!

Piglet and I are about 20 miles away from Gatwick at the moment (in good time for once!) - we fly out tomorrow afternoon...

Just a reminder, the Dakar.com website will have the tracking facility once the race is underway (I'm #173), and I'll be updating Julie as regularly as I can via text, and in-turn she'll be updating the JMO racing Facebook page...

I'm also hoping to to do a few phone-ins to Rallyraidio.net where you can listen on line...

Just go with the flow and enjoy the [Monster] ride, keep the dragon flying, but keep focus on that finish line and the bragging rights that come with it!

Meanwhile to keep the spirit of adventure alive I rode my VanVan across a field yesterday as homage to the Dakar and number 173. I got very muddy and stuck in several ruts. Here's to those who know what they're doing.....

Saw the facebook messages this morning - really gutted for you Jen :(

Been following progress online all week and you were doing so well. Last time I checked in Jen had moved up to 115th out of 180+ starters yesterday, and was still making really good progress prior to the crash. There's only 100 runners still listed now, so that's nearly half the bikes on a DNF

Hope the leg isn't too bad Jenny and you and piglet are re-united soon. Think you deserve a medal for even taking part - that's one bonkers event. We'll have to treat you to a twatted hip party next time we meet up.

+ 1 on Scotts post, what a bummer for Jen : (
She's had the guts to do what some of us wouldn't, so although she's probably very dissapointed with this awful scenario, she's done herself proud and i'm sure we are all very proud of her attempt.
As Scott says, roll on next year Jen.

Hi

I have spoken to Jen tonight - she's very tired and in pain - but she'll be ok.

Nate from Rally RAIDo has interviewed her if you would like to hear from the women herself...

From Nate at Rally RAIDo Today's chat with JMo from the hospital:

We start with an update on her current condition, and then get some incredible insight into what life is like "on the Dakar" for the average (read: not superhuman) participant. If you're a Dakar junkie, this stuff is like crack.

Keep plugging away, Jenny!

We think she'll probably be back by next weekend. She's still very tired and doesn't want to chat too much, but that's not really surprising! She has a wifi dongle for her netbook now, so she'll probably be along here at some point in the next few days.

As for her next adventure Scrapps, that's going to Morocco with a few of us in March! Not sure if she'll be able to ride, but at least we'll have an official photographer!

Thanks everyone... it's going to be a slow(er) process with the leg unfortunately - another 3 weeks at least before i can stand/walk on it, and possibly 'months' before it is strong enough to be able to ride with any enthusiasm...

I'm glad you liked the photos - at least I have a good selection from those first few days, that hopefully illustrate the intensity of the whole event!

Hope to catch up with you all in person later in the year!
