Quite easy, long M8 allen key required. Tricky part is supporting the bike during the swap.

Verey easy if you have some basic equipment.

Front paddock stand
Rear paddock stand
Tall step ladder (or some rafters above the bike)
Couple of ratchet straps.

Set the bike up on the paddock stands, set the step ladders over the rear of the bike so that they straddle the rear sub frame.

Loop the ratchet straps over the top two steps of the ladder, (not the top single step) or over a rafter and loop through the sub frame, tighten the straps so they just take the wheight of the bike off the rear paddock stand, (but do not raise it above the stand) this will now allow you to undo the top and bottom boltsd and remove the shock.

Hope this helps.

Chris.

You need to unload the rear suspension. An abba stand is ideal for this.
Then follow the procedure in the shop manual (you do have one?)

Cheers all, I have front and rear paddock stands and a hoist, so it sounds easier than I first thought. I have done motocross ones before and they are a swine to do, which is why I asked!
Thanks again. :)

If you have the stock footpegs on the bike, take then off and refit them upside down so the don't fold up then put the bike on axle stands under said footrests, that should let the rear wheel hang ok. Shock should take about 20-30 minutes to remove after that

Like all women that go shopping, it's not the name, quality or specification; It's all down to the colour of the spring!!! :D :D

I think the final decision is still to be confirmed however.................. It looks like it was made two minutes ago whilst I was typing this! :)

I notice colour came 1st however!!!

You mean you don't just flip it over onto its handlebars and saddle like a BMX then....?

TBH that's not far off Gordon, the old footpeg switcheroo is one of the easiest to next is an Abba stand.
Of course the trickiest part is setting it for the riders weight. :p

Well maybe you would find it easier to come clean on here now then, then it wouldn't feel so bad telling Maxton!

So have you got more snow coming today then south of here? :chuckle:

The thought of sitting on a bouncy purple one brings tears to my eyes. :look:

You need a good socket set with Allen sockets. You have a deep hole on the lower one so be careful not to lose anything in the casting or you will have to remove swingarm.

Main thing is remember these bolts are sometimes made of CHEESE and maybe also be stubborn. The actual job is easy and not involved and dont lose the spacer washers .

Stafford - I'll let you know if it brings tears to my eyes or not :worried:

My brother lives about 40 miles from their factory and I could do with going to see him - it will be weather dependant!

As Maxton have not made a shock for my bike they need it at the factory for two days, but they will make a custom one and set it all up and fit....

So looks like a visit to my brothers when the weather warms up a tad!!!
