I thought I'd post up as some of you wanted to know what it was like. Hopefully the mods won't ban me for posting this picture:

Quick comparison:

Obviously the Monster and the 636 are completely different bikes. I've not had a chance to ride it in the dry yet and have only done about 20/30 miles. At first it was REALLY weird in terms of steering, I had to switch the damper off because I didn't like the way it steered itself at low speeds :chuckle:

For commuting I actually find the 636 better because of the smoothness and the fact it can pull in almost any gear but the seating position and clutch on the Monster is much much better. The brake are absolutely mental on the Kwak  and the rear works too.

Sound: Monster had termi slip ons and the 636 has a full Akrapovic system. The Monster wins by far, a friend at work has a supermoto and when he fired his up then I fired up the 636 I was ashamed. It's sounds good when accelerating but the Monster sounds good everywhere!

To sum it up the Monster wins by far in terms of sound and specialness, you never get tired of riding and even just looking at the thing. However the 636 wins pretty much everything else :D

Seriously though, nice choice - a mate has one in matt black, awesome bike - have fun but watch out for the slippy leaves ;)

Blue is nicer than green! The plan was another Ducati and I almost bought a 749 that was going cheap but it sold before my Monster did. I also realised that this is my last year of uni and I'm hoping to work somewhere like Heathrow and there is no way I could put a Ducati through commuting all the way there all year round or even afford to!

If money allows I'd be straight back on a Duc or have one as a second bike. This is my first taste of a Japanese IL4 and I'm enjoying it so far, it's not the warm, fuzzy special feeling of owning a Ducati but it's still awesome

I did a similar thing last year , but in my case it was a Fazer 600. Absolutely immaculate showroom condition, did everything it was designed to do perfectly, I brought it home on a trailer, insured it, took it out for a 50 mile run, it performed a treat, sold it the day after. Luckily, I hadn,t sold my monster at the time.

looks nice, but that shot won't make the calendar! ;)

Jap IL4s feel more like a piece of machinery to me, purposeful, clinical etc, while Ducatis feel more organic, fun etc

hope you enjoy it, and get another monster soon...

You made the right choice the 636 is an awesome piece of kit. What tyres you running on it?

I'm loving it so far! (Kawasaki's make funny sounds though) the tyres will have to be changed at some point as the rear is very slightly square. It has a Pirelli Dragon on the front and Maxxis on the rear
