Ah my first bike..:(

I don't want any of you young ******* taking the pi$$ but my first bike was a BSA m20 ex WD sidevalve dispatch riders bike.
It came from pride and clarke in london, was as heavy as hell and the devil its self to start but it started my 53year addiction with all things 2 wheeled...

I sold it to some guy in London. Was a great 1st bike, but no one really runs a 125 for long so I guess it's either in a ditch or on it's 5th or 6th owner by now!

That was technically my 2nd bike, as the 1st (identical in everyway) was nicked after 600 miles!

Had a few other bikers ask why I had L plates on it... they couldn't believe it was a 125!

I had a CM125 custom thingy then the Monster. The 125 was quite fast really up to 75mph with a tailwind almost as fast as some Harleys:biggrin: Those Sachs 125s are awesome, there was a lad who used to ride out with us on a Tuesday night run out and he wasn't far behind the guys on their big bikes. He'd nip up the inside on roundabouts and go through the twisties as fast as if not faster which upset a few, unfortunately he'd get mugged on the straight bits.

This is the first bike I learnt to ride around a local cash and carry car park in the summer of 1979.

It was my dads CD175 work hack - a slighty older 1969 model than in the photo in grey.

http://motorbike-search-engine.co.uk/classic_bikes/1978_honda_cd175.jpg

Then I went out and got my moped - restricted CB50M as I'd only just turned sixteen

Just like this one but finished in light blue

http://motorbike-search-engine.co.uk/classic_bikes/cb50.JPG

Then at the ripe old age of seventeen I got one of these - a Honda CB250T Dream, which felt like a rocketship compared the restricted fifty

<iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wuNJP_l69pU?rel=0" frameborder="0"></iframe>

Following on I have had..

a Honda CB250N Superdream, Suzuki 650G Katana, Honda CB400 four F1, Morini 3 1/2 sport, 600 Monster, 900ie monster and the trike

There will be a new addition to the list very soon :woot:

Yamaha SR125 - bought because (a) it wasn't a Honda CG125 like most learner bikes; (b) it had an electric start (which the Honda CG 125 didn't have at the time from my recollection); (c) it had a very low seat.

had a lot of fun on it riding through forestry land that I wasn't allowed on

only got caught once

bike suffered like all hondas from having no camshaft bearings and running cam direct in head

30 odd years later I now want another trail bike, but a little bigger and a 2 stroke this time

All this talk of old times has reminded me of a story.....
I used to have a mate called Nigel, which we shortened to Nig and then extended, quite innocently, to ****** (rhymes with bigger). He had a 350 suzuki rebel at the time, bought new from Redcar motorcycles in Leicester. Sometimes he would borrow his mother's honda 50 moped to hang around on in the evenings. I think this was to avoid having to say no to the many requests for a go on the suzuki which came from mates who didn't really know how to ride (these were still the days when you could ride a 250 on L plates). His mothers moped was not the usual honda 50 but was instead one of those that had the whole engine/clutch/transmission unit contained within the back wheel. P50 might have been their designation. They made them in red or grey, and you didn't see that many around. Nigel always wore an ex RAF greatcoat and a white, open-face helmet with a peak. One evening I was walking along the road when I was passed by a honda P50 whose rider sported the aforementioned combo, and just as I hailed my friend by his usual nickname I began to realise that this moped was one of the grey ones, not the expected red. I suddenly became aware of the possibility of a dreadful but innocent mistake, and sure enough the head turned to reveal the face of a particularly black-skinned gentleman of african heritage. Now I have never been a racist, even in those very different times, but I had already abandoned any thoughts of being believed when I gave my explaination and had instead dived promptly in to a roadside ditch and was already cowering behind the hawthorns, trying to suppress my guilty laughter.
The pangs of guilt still make me squirm, nearly 40yrs later. `

Blah blah

KH100EX... 75mph of 2 stroke boringness if you lay flat on the tank, I really wanted a Wrangler RD125LC but couldn't afford one (I almost swapped a Z400J for one some time later and I still would quite like one today)

Suzuki GT250. Faithful friend took me through my test (yes I am that old), let me thrash it everywhere and race the local RD boys, even stood in a Police warehouse for six months when it got nicked and started with one bump start. Months Later I got chased by a unmarked car for speeding and they arrested me and threw me in a cell because the bike came up as stolen. Turned out their records were incorrect and hadn't been updated from the time it was stolen from me! They dropped the speeding charge... I had done a terrible cafe racer conversion which involved a proper ally race tank and two/four seat, but a terrible rattlecan "Shogun Assassin" paint job. S&B filters and ace bars. Those were the days...

Suzuki Ts50er faster than the better looking yamaha dt50's that all of my friends had ! Cost me £499 brand new A831STP if your still out there ! In the 9 months I had it before passing my test it had 7 different exhaust systems, loads of sets of reeds,3 different big bore kits and lots of home tuning in search of that extra mph! Passed my test on my 17th birthday and picked up my Gpz900 and rode home at 150 mph to see how fast it would go,while doing that my visor flew off so my eyes my were streaming so much i could hardly see,it's a wonder I'm still alive as as a kid I was metal on a bike.

The first thing I rode was at 15 years old, a Gilera 50 - no helmet. The first I owned was a BMW R80ST at the age of 27ish. The one I wish I still had is a green 1989 Kawasaki zxr750 H1, or maybe the Triumph Thruxton. The most fun I've had on a bike this year was on the daughter's Aprilia RS50, and the most intense fun was a Honda NC30 at Cadwell Park 20 years ago.

Sorry...innocent mistake. I've obviously been successful in blanking out the memory.....
Passed my test in 1970, I think. It was an Italian machine, ..red, ..full fairing, ..advanced, leading link front suspension, ..lots of chrome, ..named after a wasp.
Bit like early experiences with girls around that time.....pointed the way, didn't really get there.
A mate of a mate nicked it and wrote it off. By then I was pleased about that. Bought the Yam with the insurance money.

Passed my test in '82. The test was to ride around a block (mine was in Twickenham), and the examiner could only see you on 2 sides, LOL! I think there may have been a few theory questions too!
