I just made my own out of Ali, it's a lot easier than you might think but a bit frightening when you cut the end of the frame off.
If you decide to go dwon this road I can sort you out some pictures.

Why not Yorkie, Looks better if you have a seat cowl ?

I chopped mine off and it does look better in my opinion but you do get water up over your helmet! on rainy days! I have a seat cowl and love the look.
I bought a competetion werkes kit from the states but it was about £100 in all but I am happy with it. There are videos on you tube about how to perform the chop too and also how to manufacture a bracket.
I would look into making your own as the kit itself is very basic and could be made for peanuts!
Good luck with it!

Jimz,

Not a fan, i managed to get a retro carbon short tail tidy, without the cutting of the frame.

Each to their own buddy, but i like my slightly different tail. Have you chopped yours?

I've managed to do it myself with two left hands. Total cost around £20, piece of aluminium sheet, metal cutter, file and done. Seemple

I found this was very helpful:

i chopped mine and already had an xtail tidy.. all i did was modify it by shortening it and drilling 2 new holes.. it was much easier then it appears to do..

:dizzy:Not yet Yorkie,

Still contemplating. Years ago I had a GSX-r SRAD and I think with the chop it looks similar. Loved it then so I'm guessing I'll love the mod too.

Just think my high level Ducati performance cans will stick out too far and look gash!

Last bike was chopped by ten inches at the back.. But custom undertray took the worst of the rain and sludge .. Kinda got used to getting wet!

Was going to single seat and radicaly hack the back of my monster.. But at the mo I quite like him as he is.. Because it so quick to pack my gear on and clear off at the drop of a hat!!! With a tail chop it's a right agro I found.
I can't have a tank bag and stuff on back drives me nuts!!

I may if I can afford oneday buy a stock monster leave as is (bar cans) and then go to work on hector.. Have a tail tidy kicking about my spares too
as well !

Does chopping cans down effect MOT emissions?

analogue_rogue
14-10-2010, 03:47 PM
no. because emmission control is done at the front of the bike by the cat, the rear of the bike is for sound muting or muffling.. so be careful about noise levels but you should be fine.

To get my cans level I would need to lose about 4", would it make it considerably louder?

Yorkie
15-10-2010, 07:14 AM
Possibly, if you are concerned that it would be too loud you could fit a baffle.

Too loud lol... When can a monster be too loud!???
If your ears bleed shove some cotton wool In them

Get baffles you can take in and out easy for mot and the likes ...
I run stubbies and not that loud to be honest.

I'm lucky I have a potter one side who at this moment is banging clay about and has musical get togethers on their balcony!
A very vocal baby the other side and her mother who thinks it's ok to have 5 am calls in bed with a phone so loud it can be heard doors and windows shut acros the road!! And her ex bf who thought he was a porn star ... Other then that a biker couple who love my monster!!

I don't feel guilty anymore!!!! But I understand.. Just say least I didn't buy a HArley !! that noise any time of day would grate on me :)

:twak:My neighbours are mostly retired, one used to have bikes when he could cock his leg over to ride one so he is fine. I'm sure all the others are calling me a noisy twat behind my back as i've only had it for a month so the punding on their hearing aids is all new.

analogue_rogue
15-10-2010, 06:53 PM
to be honest you could pad it out with more wadding to mute the noise.. and if they are road legel you can cut the baffle down too
