There was that BRIGHT yellow one the guy was wearing at the MOB weekender.
Schuberth make them, initially as just the flip-up ones, but I'm sure I read somewhere they were going to offer it across the range. Pricey though Schuberth.

Could you just buy bright coloured vinyl wrap or something ?

The only difference is the finish not the fit or anything else as far as I've heard.

I've heard that the DAY-GLO colours are not that durable - that's to say that the eye-searing effect tends to fade after prolonged exposure to sunlight. Perhaps the manufacturer's can give you some indication of the colour's lifespan but I would reckon on a noticeable difference after a couple of years of regular use. Probably still pretty effective though.
I have a bright pearly white helmet. but no halo. or wings. ;-)

Dayglo paint is not very stable in Uv .. it fades very fast.
I looked at spraying a bike dayglow orange and they said it fades pretty quick possible 2 years it would be stripped of most of the colour.

At a show I went to the other week was a dayglow bike and the fading was terrible.
Its dire in the sun honestly even the dayglow bits on my 125 lasted under a year then faded right out.

I wear a stupid bright yellow lid to commute on .. on my yellow bike .. it stands out!!
However ... if I wear my Simpson and on another bike .. the streetfighter simpson guy owner will nod at me .
In the week he rides past me every morning and I always nod .. he turns the other way and ignores me!!..because I am wearing a stupid legoman lid and a silly dayglow bike !

There was actually something doing the rounds saying dayglow was not that effective as well .
I may be wrong on that...
To be honest If they are looking they will see you .
If they are not .. then they won't no matter what you are wearing I feel.

You could dress up in dayglo, fairy lights, and strap a flashing beacon to your head and they'll still not see you.
The down side to being blindingly obvious is a bit contradictory because it makes you blindingly obvious, congrats you are now an object of attraction, that's good you think?? Naww the other noddy will just get into the usual gotta panic. plus whooo look at that (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_fixation) mode.
It'll be like spreading yourself with jam and jumping around next to a wasps nest.

That of course assumes that they even look in the first place and as a huge percentage of accidents are caused by that the dayglo, fairy lights, and flashing beacon won't be helpful.

Look at the plod, they drive/ride assuming that everyone else is deaf, blind and mentally deffective. When they have accidents involving another vehicle it's usually where they have wrongly assumed that they have been seen and heard and the other party has got the brains to realise what they are going to do.

It's never going to be what you look like as you have to be seen to be appreciated, it's 99% down to the way you ride.

I know what people are saying about people just not looking. But over the last few months I have noticed a rise in the number of people using dayglow lids and mostly I notice them from a very long distance.
They have cought my eye many times. At first I thought ewwww what a bloody awfull looking lid but the more I see them the more I think they are better than some over priced race rep lid. (them silly yellow visors are great)

When Stuart followed me he said he kept thinking my helmet was brake lights, but then we are talking about Stuart

In brief answer to the original question, yes, and it did have a noticeable benefit.
The longer answer is that a single colour is of less benefit than a contrasty pattern. Both tonal contrast and colour contrast can be used to get you noticed. Yellow is the colour you will notice most easily, and red will hold your attention best. Daglo colours do fade in daylight, but do you leave your helmet out in strong daylight all day, and how many years would you keep the helmet?
I just used the colours employed at the time by my local police force and put a 3 inch wide daglo orange band over the top of the lid with a dark blue half inch stripe on either side. The rest of the helmet was white, and the effect was magical in traffic. Drivers could not have been more polite and considerate, and seemed keen not to be in my way. The other lids I used at the same time were the one you see to the left, and a plain black Arai. The black one is simply anonymous.
I have just purchased an electric blue XJR1300, so I suppose I could do a blue and yellow checker scheme over the winter... same colours as the force use now, by coincidence.
KBC lids have been available for a good few years, and are okay in the opinion of many purchasers - I was asked for them often when I sold bike gear for a living.
And I painted the lids mentioned earlier.

You want to be a bit careful there, looking too close to the real thing is impersonating an emergency vehicle that'll be a £2K+ fine and a trip to the crusher for the vehicle.

Like this ....

Thanks for that - I'd not really want to impersonate - just use colour and pattern on a helmet to get and hold the attention of other road users, m'lud. The love hearts scheme does that rather well already. My local force uses plain white helmets for the uniformed riders. Something to consider is that there is no scientific basis for the Highway Code's advice to wear a white helmet.

ok so I have found out that they fade fast and opinion is split on how well they work. The ones in my local bike shop are only £60.00 so I think I will try one and see how I go as I dont use the bike daily and can keep it stored out of the sun.
Now I need to choose from orange or yellow

Shame they don't do one like the sock fashion back in the 80's ... who wore one dayglow sock eg Pink with a green one on the other foot ???? .. or maybe my friends lied to me , so I looked like a twat! Which is not hard even these days :)

£60 worth a punt ..

Sheer genius there!!!!

Any colour crash helmet, just pull a lurid flourescent sock over it and there you go.

lol :)

This is not a good example but here is a photo of a friend of mines bike and it was him who I was talking to about dayglow orange paintwork.

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/helsinkvampire/carl.jpg

The bike doesn't look it here but has dayglow colours on it.

The paint then went to this
http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/helsinkvampire/farm.jpg

If you look on the side at the orangey red and the top.. its faded loads..
He was pretty peed off by this I believe.
Its not a trick of the light as I was stood next to it :)
