View Full Version : Michelin Power Pure's....

It won't be too long before I need another set of tyres for the S4R after its trip to Misano and the three trackday's I'll have done by the middle of next month.
I currently run, and have run for a long time, the Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's, which are brilliant for my fast road & track use.
I did some reading and the Pilot Pure tyre is the newest version of the 2CT, which first appeared in 2006. The Pilot Pure was launched in 2010 and apart from the fancy 2lb weight saving, sound very good.

I'm assuming that 4 years of development mean a better tyre, but has anyone fitted them yet ?

I think I heard someone at Cadwell, in our bunch, talking about these...

I'm just about to fit another set of 2CTs, simply because I found them easier to get hold of, but would be interested to hear about the Pures...

He does, they're a 2CT too but no lighter than the (worn) Power 2CT he took off

I'd say choosing a decent tyre ABSOLUTELY WAS 'day to day useful stuff'

Not sure if Shuffy runs 2Ct's or Pure's on his S2R1000, but he was raving about how well they had lasted a few weeks ago. Pretty sure he'll replace them like for like.

I always got good results with Michelin's pilot sports on my solo too

ok, perfect Capo, would be good to hear what they're like.
I'm sure you;ll notice the change gyroscopic effect of the 2lb less tyre weight :)

...and the rear was about 400g heavier than a part worn slightly square Power 2CT.
Grip was fine for me on the day but then I lack the talent to explore ultimate grip levels!
What I noticed was the wear, or lack of. Not much rippleing and very few marbles. Even after dropping the rear to 26 psi cold for the afternoon and pushing bit harder the didn't seem to get as hot.
I suspect they are a slightly more road biased tyre.

Yeah I'm a bit disapointed in beliving the marketing blurb, but I needed new tires anyway. Wish I'd weighed them. I now disregard them when calculating the weight of the bike. (which I now reckon to be about 165kg).

I've done a couple hundred miles on them, AND I noticed the back losing grip on a couple of occasions (big handfull exiting roundabouts), one of the areas I will be exploring on Sunday. I had 2CT's before and they were the dogs nuts.

I just asked the guys at FWR about these tyre while i had a new set of 2ct's fitted, Not good in the wet was there verdict which is intresting 2ct apparently grip better

Sorry to high-jack this thread, but on the choices of tyre sizes, i get really confused, on a M900 carbed there are several choices, but since my fun comes from the trackdays, i'd want a tyre that allows good lean angle, so here's the confusion 160, 170, 180 ? then a 55 or 60 profile, and that's just the rear :dizzy:

The big number is the width of the tyre the small number is the height expressed as a %age of the first number.

So for example 180/55 is 180mm wide and 99mm high (180/100*55=99)
This means that a 180/60 would be 108mm high and in theory you'd have a bit more lean before running out of tread.

With your 3.5" & 5.5" rims 120/70 front and 180/55 rear shouldn't really give you any problems, you should be scraping pipes and sidestand before you run out of tyre.

I've got them on mine and they're brill (so far)
