so for the second time this year, my bike is on the ground. fell off the stand while outside work. this time it looks like the stand sunk into the tarmac and it was already on a slope.

seems to have gone down twice, first its fell on top of a honda scooter and taken that down with it. thanks to someone in the office they have picked it up only for it to fall again. i think the first time it would have been protected by the scooter, but the second time its bent the bars dented the tank and a few other scrapes.

i've offered to get the scooter repaired (without using insurance) but the bill is around 650
so what kind of cost can i expect to get the tank sorted. if the cost is a lot i may need to use insurance. but i'm worried i'll pay for it when the renewal comes in.

Depends on how bad the dent is...
Can it be taken out with paintless dent removal or is it a belter of a ding.

I am not sure on cost but £100 -£150 to fill and spray a tank.
May be less depends on who does it.
It pays to ring about as costs can vary !
I think that was proved in a how much for a re spray post a while ago.

I would say no more then £150 for a tank fix.
Get quotes.. it pays off.

I always carry a puck for my side stand at worst crush a can.
You just need a decent surface area under the stand to stop it sinking.

Its bad enough when your bike goes over but when someone elses gets caught up in the fall as well.. gutting.

A plastic puck for £1.99 can save your bank balance!!

As he11cat says carry a plastic puck around and use it wherever whenever. You pick them up for free at race meetings as I have now got a handful in the garage. If you want one I can post you one.

Sorry to hear about your bike.
I've got a spare tank which is dented too but you're welcome to it, if it's any use to keep you on the road while yours is getting repaired :-)

bulldog, how would this be reapired, is it just filled and repainted, or can the dent be knocked back out

philLew, thanks for the offer, i'll bear it in mind. however, i may just get the bars replaced, i have considered clip-ons anyway, and do the tank over the winter.

Ouch that's pretty bad. I'm just amazed it got hot enough in Glasgow to melt tarmac. The resident scots must have been running around in flames like out of hours vampires. Ginger and sunshine isn't a good mix

Good luck with repairs

Bad dent .. big .. but its quite uniform and no creases.. Im not a bodywork expert .. but If it could be pushed out a bit then filled it may be sortable!!

Its when you get a really non uniform ding or creases its worse ..

GT.. Oi... My mums a Scot lol.. I don't know what went wrong .. she can lay out in the sun forever loves the heat...It skipped a generation here...
Both my parents are of Celtic birth..
Both tan..
Me I am not red haired but have green eyes and people always asking are you really red haired ??
I have lilly white freckly Celtic skin.. and yup I can't go out in the sun.... I actually blister!!..(and nocturnal).

Maybe I should move there!!... but I am also allergic to midges!! ..

Crikey must have been scorchio!! If he had said a tidal wave of rain washed the bike over I would have said ...arhhhh I understand!!!.. or a plague of giant mossi's knocked it over !!.. then I would say thats global warming for you!

Hope it gets sorted .. just remember nearly all monsters have a ding there on the tank.. (mine does wasn't me) we just make sure we all take photos of them from their good side :)..)

My tank is a dent free zone too......

I'm also 100% Scot (but with a weird Hampshire accent!!) - also non ginger, grey eye's, not allergic to sun and can take tropical heat over 35 deg all day long...... so much for stereotypes :mand:

Now as for midgies - wee sods are not to be taken lightly..........
