Managed 204.4 miles on 1 tank of fuel and could only get 12.5 litres in when filling up.

Anyone know the true size on M600 tank so i can can work out my MPG as i think its well over 50MPG?

you must have been pushing it :chuckle:

Slightly confused, you don't need the tank size to calculate MPG just distance and fuel used.

4.55 litres to the UK (Imperial) Gallon so 12.5l = 2.75 IMP Gal
204.4miles / 2.75 gallons = 74.33 mpg

Tank size would be useful in calculating maximum range.

It'll be over 50 on a 600.
I can get about 70 out of my 750, that does require some throttle magement (going slow which I have real trouble with) so I usually don't bother ;). Also I start to get worried when I've done over 150 miles on a tankful, my IE was literally on fumes by that distance.

Bear in mind inaccuracies of spedometer when calculating mpg

Most read 5-10% high and it gets worse with speed, so true mpg would be lower than calculated on most bikes. 50mpg is a good average on most monsters, and 600's should manage between 55 to 60mpg if not thrashed. Plastic petrol tanks hold roughly 3/4 gallon less than metal ones.

3/4 gallon

do you mean 3/4 litre? 3/4 gallon is a lot when you have a 14l tank.

I checked my 620 (plastic tank) when I first got it and I used to get around 55mpg thrashing it round town (assumed speedo to be accurate).
The only time I ever ran it dry was 147 miles hard use round north Lincs.

Think you should have an 18l tank on a 600, MCN agrees with me at least :) It's quite impressive that you've got that far on 12.5l - best I ever had out of the 695 was 62mpg, I'll normally just put 10l in at a time and it lasts a little over 100miles though.

Not sure why but they cut the tank down to 14l for mine. Makes it quite annoying for rideouts because it's always the first to run out of fuel :(

Crikey, all this sounds fanciful to an S4RS owner with a 13L tank... to hell with practicality!

Not sure Rob - I heard the 3/4 figure mentioned in conversation. Maybe I got my litres and gallons mixed up. The plastic tanks are really thick. I'm sure AK mentioned 20mm in places due to moulding process. It actually makes them heavier empty than a steel tank, so would have thought capacity suffered by more that 3/4 litre.Think you should have an 18l tank on a 600, MCN agrees with me at least :) It's quite impressive that you've got that far on 12.5l - best I ever had out of the 695 was 62mpg, I'll normally just put 10l in at a time and it lasts a little over 100miles though.

The most I ever sqeezed into mine from bone dry was just shy of 15L, so the 18L claim by MCN is bollocks.

That's the penalty you pay for carrying around the contents of a plumbing catalogue

The trike still averages 50mpg ;)

I've been working out over the last 1000 miles or so that my 996 S4 been getting approx. 55 mpg and thats not hanging about. It didn't seem to change much when I put the later chip in either.

I know...unbelieveable...nope thats defo in miles

Makes up for my Aprilia Dorsoduro as that does just over 100 on a tank and does about 48mpg according the dash computer

I hardly ever go over 80...dunno bout revs as there is no tacho.

It doesn't run that great on a low throttle position so i guess it needs a service as it has't had one in the 18 months i've owned it....running lean maybe??

I hope that's a typo or you've certainly set a new record - for fuel prices!!

Aye, fuel seems to be dropping in price a wee bit right now.

200+ miles on a tank? Bloody hell... I'm on the third fill up for that kind of mileage....

Start getting nervous at 90 miles, anything over 100 miles and I'm sweating!! Worse mpg calc is something like 25mpg on the 1000DS, 73 miles and 13 litres....

After the magic 100 clicks up on the trip meter then I head straight to the nearest fuel station...... though the warning light usually fires up around the 130 mark.

Are you sure you speedo isn't reading in kmph instead of mph?

Could be an imported bike with the wrong unit fitted

214.4km = 133.22 miles which is about right for an M600 to hit reserve light - it's what I used to get from mine on average
