After washing my bike. I went for a ride with my wife and found that when I stopped with the front brake I was getting a juddering for the last of the bit of braking. It appears when you put the maximum pressure on the leaver to stop.

Has anybody had this problem and what is the cure, could it be temperature dependent as it it has been very hot here in the high 30īs. I was wondering if the heat would have damaged the brake pads.

Take out the pads and check them for square , is the disc warped?

Hi David,

Could be a sticky caliper piston, if it was a warped disc it would judder (or feel an oscillation) through the lever from the instant you started braking

Before taking things apart and greasing pistons, changing pads etc, I'd give the discs a good wipe with disc cleaner, probably got fouled when you were washing the bike

I found the problem. It was missing the locking spring which was causing the pads to vibrate under heavy breaking. The spring must have fallen out when we drove over some cobble stones for 3 km.

Thanks for your advice.
