Anyone tell me how much oil will take the level from min to max on the 900? And while on the subject which oil do you guys recommended?

The handbook specifies Agip T4 but I doubt that would readily available down the local Halfords.

I've scoured the workshop manual and the owners h/book but none the wiser.

Thanks

Prob about a litre or less to top it up from min to max level.
However, if you dont know what is in there, then its worth draining & doing an oil change.

Do a search on oil types - its a bit like tyre types (and has been covered many times over the years on here) - in that everyone will give you a different opinion on what they like/use :)
We use Putoline semi synthetic 10/40 in our bikes here (the 2 valvers). Dealers will use Shell on the whole, but not all of them.
Rockoil, Castrol are often used by owners too.

ps: I dont think the T4 even exists these days!

Can't remember the oil capacity off hand (about 3.5 / 4lts ?)
After draining it, I usually put about 3lts in & keep checking it til it's somewhere nr max.
Start up for 30 secs & stop.
Wait for 5 mins & recheck level & top up to max line.
I then go for a 20 min ride & recheck level after it's been stood for 10 mins or so.

As for oil, I use Shell Advance fully Synthetic, it's dear stuff, but it is Ducati recomended & it is quality oil.
Air cooled Monsters have to cope with a wider variation in engine temp compared to the water cooled models so I use the best quality oil.

As CK says about a litre and I'm with desmo on the shell but only use semi synth

Try your local Hein Gerike, their own brand of oil is actually Motul, which is a good quality oil, and as its their own brand, its competitively priced.

I think it's nearer to 3/4 litre on mine. Best to fill it gradually and keep checking. Remember to let it stand for a few minutes and keep it level while reading sight glass.

Cheers all - so oil grade 10/40, semi or fully synth then.

Thanks

I'm using Mobil semi synthetic 10/40 at the moment. Hardly use any oil in between changes, and only used 500ml on the 2200 mile trip to Italy. Also had good results with Rock oil Gardian. Worst oil I've used recently was Silkolene 10/40, as the trike drank it, ran hotter and smoked really badly - waste of money.

Is this all the same for my 620? (I'm going to have a go at my first service :on: )

Same stuff for all of them rac3r.
If you read threads some people report clutch slip on the wet clutches on full synth. Might be more a case of exagerating the wear there is already?? Maybe different fiction materials. I've tried both and the only difference I found was ££'s

This is the oil I'm using at present - I change it every 3000(ish) miles
