Hi all

as you are probably well aware the helpful garage sent to get me going again in France has blown my ignition.

So before I start what is likely to be damaged when boosting a totally flat battery?

Obviously the battery has been replaced and I tried my ss igniter boxes, so I now have a spark but is there anything else that I need to check?

Once I get her running I can then locate the charging problem which started the whole chain of events.

Cheers
Stuart

Stuart,

See if it runs ok using the SS ignition components. Then shop for replacement parts -coils/ignitors etc. Once it's a runner work on the charging issues. Usual culprits are Battery (already swapped), Rectifier/regulator, Generator and any connections or wiring loom related to these.

A good multi-meter will help isolate the problem

Hope you get it sorted

I agree, an anomally in the voltage on the bike could damage the CDI unit.

Then move on to finding the issues with the charging curcuit.

Being a carbed model do you mean the two black igniter boxes?

Hi all

my mate has declared my rectifier 'knackered' so hopefully that will be the source of the initial charging problem.

I will take the genny cover off just to check that the genny is ok, as in the nut is not coming loose again, as he says that maybe why the rectifier blew in the first place. For the sake of taking the cover off is worth checking.

I wouldn't gamble on secondhand - usually more trouble than it's worth on electrics

i thought the carbed models had the cdi unit under the airbox at the front bolted to the frame? this houses the rectifier aswell in the same unit or am i confusing myself?

Hi all

Great news, just got Monster started using my SS igniters.

Did try the other evening but put clean plugs in, fully charged battery and she fired first time, am well happy.

At least it would appear only to be the igniters that got fried.

Will now start on Carole Nash to see how they want to play this, should be fun.

Cheers

Hi all

I'm hooping that its just the rectifier blown was the charging fault. My mate said that if it was on its way out, I have had to top the battery up a few times, then the long miles at speed probably saw it off.

So fingers crossed its just that but will inspect the genny when I get the cover off.

He11cat, I told you not to let the cat out of the bag. Was going to show it off in Belgium, but its blown now.

Cheers
