I'm getting a full paintjob done on the rebuild monster, something a little different. But I've just had the quote back and it seems a little steep. What do you all think....

Tank, Cowl and screen, all main colour with a second colour 'flash' with pinstripe surround.
Side panels, Belly pan and Front mudguard plain main colour.
Apparently the flashy bits will have to be cut and masked by hand so appreciate a bit of work.
£650

Does this sound good or bad to you???

Its a fair price. Yes you can get cheaper but if you want that bit special you pay for it. Me and scrapps paint jobs were only £200-250 but I would pay more if I had something more specific. But at the same time my tricolor wont be around next year as I want something different again.

Dream machine went over 1500 for a standard yam speed blocks pattern on an FZR, that was wheels as well. Nice job but you do hear some grumblings, seems they use contract sprayers.
Here's a list of bike 'specialists' , Ace of sprays do some nice work, seen some of their stuff.
My brother says good things about bike paintwork in surrey, the street triple paint job they have gives you an idea.. Probably worth a chat and visit.
Oh price, mostly you get what you pay for... unless they're rubbish at it of course!!

I know you generally get what you pay for, but what I'll get I won't know until it's finished at which point i'll need to pay for it so a bit late. It took an hour in person to discuss through the job so i didn't want to explain it on the phone to several for quick quotes or I'd still be here next year. I also have a couple of odd ideas involved that I know he can incorporate where others wouldn't so I think I'd better get saving the pennies.

Dave I have a car sprayer doing my bikes .. ive seen a couple he has done and they where basic jobs but looked nice and shiny.. but he does'nt do pinstripes..or I would say check out mine when its done.

He just had his bike done and it was really glossy.

Im taking a real gamble but if it goes wrong then its not a huge loss.
Then I will go elsewhere..
I need to take the flake and gun up to the chap so we can have a chat if he says no can do then I have a back up plan! I need to know he's really going to be able to do mine before I commit 100%

I had a big cruiser sprayed years back with some pinstripes it cost £600 back then .. although was a huge double gas tank.

The first place it went to the paint chosen was purple and detailing explained..
When went to get the parts nearly fainted ... he'd sprayed it Maroon and it was all pitted.
I then had to go to trading standards and get it sorted.
Took it else where and it came back really nice and purple!!

Once you add bits in and add hand done detailing it adds up im afraid.

Sounds like things are reasonably priced then.
Thanks all.

Dave,

Bike cost me £300 - front guard, tank, screen, tail cover, sidepanels, imola pan. All painted Peugeot Diablo Red metallic, laquered and new logos. Friend of a friend who worked in a local car body repair shop - at mates rates..

..and will be up for sale in near future ;)

Trike was £350 - as per photo two tone metallic and pinstripes. Also done by a mate that worked in a Volvo body repair shop, as a private job at discounted price. I did have to have rear mudguards re-clear coated after it sagged where I'd used body filler.

Not for sale... ever

Hey PD - My monster (both the green version and the creme) cost £450 for all the bits, although that was a single colour (no masking)...

The finish is first rate (as you know) and the guys who did it specialize is classic car restoration and fancy paint finishes...

C G Coachworks in Horam, Sussex (near Wessons Cafe): 01435 810061 ask for Simon who is the man painting chap...

Toot toot!
