This started to happen all of a sudden today - when I turn the handlbars to the left the engine cuts out 5 times out of 10. Does anyone have any idea what it might be? Is it a common problem with a simple solution or is this one going to require someone more skilled than myself to delve deep into the wiring?

Any insight will be greatly appreciated!

900s used to suffer from that. It was the loom running round the right side of the headstock. Don't know if yours is routed the same way.

Had the same on mine, check the wiring. There will be one snapped somewhere

Yes it is a common problem

I had a similar fault when my starter button packed up, and that turned out to be 2 snapped wires in the loom feeding the switchgear. A multimeter should narrow down the target area, and you'll need to expose the wires by cutting back the outer sheath. Repair should be a straight foward splice, solder and heatshrink job. I introduced a bit more wire/slack into my repair to prevent it happening again.
