Evenin........

Anyone seen this before, the chain sounded like it was jumping on the front sprocket when i pushed it into the garage tonight, took the cover off and found this, the sprocket keep plate had eaten its teeth and the sprocket had wandered nearer to the casing. From the shinny bits in the gooo under the cover the chain had just started to nibble against the casing!! :worried:

I checked the chain tension before i left this morning and the wheel was in straight some i'm stumped on a cause?

Any ideas what's caused this?? And do you think it will be allright with a new plate or should i do sprockets and chain too?? There were no funny noises first thing this morning so I could have done up to 70 miles today with it like this.............

Cheers,

Shandy (who is off to cry in a corner as i was going to work on it again tomorrow!!)

Ps.........rubbish Italian mild steel, more like mild cheese!!

Hi Shandy,

On several occasions when my 600 has been serviced that plate was replaced.
They just seem to wear away.

There was a recall for this problem on the ST series of bikes and a modified plate was fitted, not sure of the monster was included.

Monster not had recall on this, they just suffer from wear over a long period of time.
When we change chain & sprockets on customers bikes we always check for wear & do have to replace the plate on occasions.

I'd just replace the plate Shandy. It does look a bit 'dry' around there, do keep the chain & sprockets well lubed fella

Yep make sure it's well lubed

I had a sprocket seized on trikes output shaft, and I had to cut it into 4 pieces to get it off
