Hi Guys,
earlier this yr, there was some talk on the site as to here to go this yr for days out, one of the events considered was the Imperial War Museum at Duxford on the Flying Legends day.
Now whilst I realise the air show is in july on the 10th and 11th, I feel know would be a good time to get the ball rolling.
I've attached the link for the museums site, and as you can see there is a discount for group bookings.

http://duxford.iwm.org.uk/server/show/conEvent.3151

I've been many times to Duxford and this perticular airshow, if you love your aircraft then this is the show to go to. There are anything up to 10 spitfires plus P51's P47's ,hurricanes,
infact so many warbirds I could'nt list them all.
So whos interested?
I was thinking of an advance booking to obtain the group discount coupled with a ride in to the event on sunday the 11th.

Please copy and paste if interested so I can get an idea of numbers so as to obtain the group discount, nearer the day we can orginise where to meet before the show.

This airshow is one of if not the biggest warbirds ehow in europe, the aircraft generally cover from WW1 to post WW2 prop powered aircraft. The most modern aircraft flowen at the event is generally the Red Arrows.

I found this clip on you tube, which should give you guys an idea of what the shows like.

We were chatting about this at Speedway last night. There's still a lot of Kenties planning to attend as it coincides with our Sunday meet. May look at options to include a scenic ride-out if weather holds. What time does air display kick off?

Shuffy
28-06-2010, 04:03 PM
Rather annoyingly I've had to change my holiday dates and I'm going to miss this now, but I have to say it looks like a brilliant event and has to be well worth a visit.

J.P
30-06-2010, 08:44 AM
Duxford Opens at 8.00am that day and the 'Main flying display' starts at 2pm.

If you buy your ticket in advance, LAST DAY TODAY, it's discounted to £28.95, but on the gate it's £31.95.

scrapps
30-06-2010, 11:24 AM
Wow £30.00 each is that plus parking ? not going to be a cheap day out what with the fuel cost of riding up from mine....:eyepopping:

J.P
30-06-2010, 11:52 AM
Well, £32 really, all be it for 5p.

neilbaldry

Yeah Duxford aint cheap, but there is alot there! But the Flying Legends do is world famous!

Grumpy
30-06-2010, 06:25 PM
No its not cheap, but if we get there for about 10am, we will have time to wonder around the hangers which is worth while, plus this allows plenty of time to watch the air display.
As for parking, it is included.
The is a cafe plus there are usually burger vans on site so food is available.

I would suggest that we meet at the 'World Famous Comfort Cafe' between 9 and 9.30. The cafe is situated just of the A11 at the 'Fourwentways' junction, this is the second junction on the A11 after the end of the spur road. The first junction where the M11 finishes and the A11 starts, Newmarket bound.
I've attached a link.

It's definately junction 1B for garage because Junction 2 is on the A2

However as you said you'll need to turn off the M25 at the A2/J2, and take the A225 sliproad to Junction 1B. The changed the layout when they rebuilt A2/M25 junction a few years ago. Some twat-navs may not show this update yet. See you both there :)

I'll go straight there (9am at Esso garage) and take food with me. Won't use Blackwall - even on Sunday with closure traffic may be a joke on trike, and I'm not f@cking about in jams. If you wanna leave early for brekkie on route feel free. If anyone still want's to meet at garage let me know, otherwise I'll see you at Duxford.

I've suggested we meet at the cafe as we can the 'ride in' to the event, also I would have thought it would make life easier to meet up outside the airfield rather than inside( also the fry ups at the cafe are good!!)
If meeting up at he cafe does'nt suit everyone, I would suggest that we meet outside the front of the American Air Museum at noon.

alan c
06-07-2010, 06:24 PM
No will give cafe a miss, tunnel could be dodgy and M25,A12 route is a bit out of the way.
