Just ordered a big bag of bits for my carb refurb (Mikuni BDST 38).

Local Ducati store tells me the needles have been flagged on his system as "unorderable".

Not "unavailable", but "unorderable".

Can someone point me to a decent Mikuni parts supplier. Need bit 132.4.005.1B

Cheers.

Have you thought about fitting a dynojet Kit instead.

Wish I could, but can't afford to spend £100 where £10 will do.

Aye, Allen's is the place

Same carbs are used on TRX Yamahas

The emulsion tubes are prone to wearing oval which affects performance and fuel consumption, worth checking out and replacing if needed.

Yes, and don't expect to get a pair of needles and emulsion tubes from Allen for £10

Great minds think alike!

Going to re-set my float heights due to one cylinder being over-rich (depite turning the mix to max-lean) and thought I'd replace the Jet needle and Needle jets while I'm in there.

Found Allens. Would appreciate if one of you guys could give me a reality check - the Jet needle for my M900 is part J8-5C19 right?

Have ordered the Needle jets (jeez, this is confusing!) from Duc dealer.

"Emulusion Tubes" = Needle Jets right?

The emulsion tube is the brass tube the needle drops into as the carb operates, as said they oval for a pastime.

Yes, needle jets = emulsion tubes. Checking float heights is a very good idea.

Factory Pro nickel plated ones from Straightline! My new Mikuni needle jets were oval before I'd sorted the carbs....And float height makes a big difference (so does a dodgy filler cap - the work of Beelzebub himself on a day his chalfonts were playing up, but that's another story...)

I did a bit of research on Mikunis because of my son's misbehaving CV 38s on his M600.
I tracked down a patented replacement emulsion tube from an American dyno company called Factory Pro Tuning. They provide quite a lot of information to back up their claims for their product. I have no connection with them, but they seem to have persuasive 'evidence.'
QUOTE:
"Replace worn bare brass needle jets in stock carbs with Factory Pro's own stock replacement nickel plated needle jets.

The needle, stock or aftermarket, will wear the needle jet orifice oblong - causing excess fuel to flow at cruise and low rpm. Additionally, the fuel that does get released is in larger, less burnable droplets. Replace the emulsion tubes / needle jets if there is more than 10k miles of varied use or 5k miles of in town driving on the bike before trying to tune. You will save time and energy.

Note that, with fuel level adjustments, you can make some mixture adjustments with the "fuel level", as adjusted by "float height" changes." (end of quote - see this link http://www.factorypro.com)

I called their UK agent this morning about buying a pair of their emulsion tubes.
Straightline Racing
102-103 London Road
King's Lynn PE30 5ES
Phone 01553 811 866.

The Factory Pro replacement tubes ("now nickel plated") are part number
CRZ-EMU-100120K and cost £40.00 per pair + VAT + 'a couple of quid' postage.
I'm going to try an persuade the lad to fork out. Maybe you could suggest a 'group buy' discount???

I am not an engineer but I get a bit baffled that terms for parts (emulsion tubes/needle jets) appear to change mid-explanation. Hope I've helped a bit.

Regards,
Harry

I think 'emulsion tube' is the American and 'needle jet' the English term for the same thing. I've fitted the nickel plated tubes but haven't had them long enough to asess wear - all I know is that stock tubes (as mentioned above) wear really fast (specially with harder needles) I've only read good things about the Factory Pro tubes, their customer service and advice is excellent (e-mail replies from the owner within hours) and Straightline say that they've never heard of wear on nickel plated tubes!
