Last year i invested tightly in an 'Aldi' special tank bag for the monster, and i have eventually got round to trying to fit it today.
1st question is do the straps look safe?, as i sort of think they seem ok sat in the garden, but a loaded bag and moving down the road, how wobbly will it be and do i need to secure it more?
2nd question is how do i fill up with petrol????? yep i guess its got to be taken off.....

Firstly thats a cracking looking bike you have.. Did it not come with a front strap which goes around the bars. This stops it lurching back.

secondly I only had the side magnets on mine. I used antislip matting from Robert Dyas cut to the same shape as underneath to also protect the paint.

I now have to use side straps on the plastic tank panels

What's stopping it sliding into your lap ??? Is there a front strap as I can't see in the photos and without it I don't think it'll stay in place very long.

Edit: You beat me to it Albie - and I agree nice bike (not sure about the previous owner though ... LOL )

no, it came with a loop originally, but some 'plum' cut it off as it was a loop and it had no-where to go to be attached :banghead:

It'll make a nice shoulder bag for you then :toilet:

See if you can reattach a strap in the place or near to where the old one was and loop it under the front frame or handle bar clamps to stop it sliding backwards - bit dangerous without it IMHO.

Careful though you can get carried away with the tank bag thing >>>

Who needs to see the clocks anyway ???

So generally not as good as my Aldi special. Mine has push in quick connectors. You would be advised to strap around the frame hon the one more towards the front giving it less radius to pivot back. Because mine has quick connectors fill up not a big deal. £18 it cost

2 up loaded to the brim was fun. Newer clocks even harder to see.

I sewed two clips on to the side to a matched pair. If you any good with a needle and thread you can rebuid her.

thanks for your replies, i might pop round to Aldi again cus i think they still got them at the moment, or might try to get Mrs surfer to get the sewing machine out. (if she can find it):running:

originally one strap went from side to side under the tank, but not really possible so i put one each side, problem is also that the 'tighteners' are plastic and are quite easy to undo, wheres that ruck sack?????

If its magnetic you dont really need under straps . Hand sewn mine .

You can't beat the Baglux system.
It's a cover that is specially designed to fit individual bikes, that does a brilliant job of protecting the tank
The Baglux bag than just clips on to the cover, they do loads of different size bags & can be colour matched to the bike.
I have used them for years.

I have this years Lidl one, which is magnetic and can be easily turned into a backpack & comes with a waterproof cover and a clear map case on the top. Only £20 and I've taken it up to 100 mph on the motorway without it coming off! But I am a bit nervous it may slip off, am trying to get hold of some strong magnets from a DIY shop to sew into it. (I have an old monster with a metal tank).

right, after lots of research, i am beginning to like the oxford range of luggage, they do a base for the tank, and then you buy a bag to put on it, looks good, as anyone tried it?
Not badly priced either.

also avaliable in red/white - tempting

As to your question about filling up with fuel when the bag is on, you could cut a hole in it above the filler (to match the cut off strap) and then simply empty it and fill through the hole! It saves taking it off!!!!
Full of bright ideas me at this time of night..........: )

I am only joking of course! Also, do you really think someone is going to admit to using a strap on before!

I shouldn't of been so quick in killing this subject, as I've just worked out I need one as well now.
My Triumph has full luggage, but I can't take that to Arrow Mill !
I'll watch with interest as to what you choose. I do have a steel tank at least, so magnets are my preferred option.

the tank bag Albie and myself got from Aldi,s are great, they are Magnetic and fit ok with extra strap aroud front, they was a great price as well.

i now have a S2R with plastic tank so i need to try and fit using extra straps at the rear, ive had a look and should not be a problem. Think i will use some rubber matting to protect paintwork ?

got myself a richa tank bag, it has magnetic base, removeable middle section, and top bit, also has a loop that goes round the headstock! Remind me not to cut this one....

Each part has a map bit, and looks a reasonable size for a may weekender :D

Much the sameness as my one. Back pack straps and shoulder strap, expandable and map pocket only and rain cover. Looks good martin with a splash of colour.

I've got a magnetic hein-gericke tank bag thats last 5 years so far

Very similar in size/shape to this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Motorcycle-Tank-Bag-used_W0QQitemZ370353078002QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Mo torcycle_Parts?hash=item563ac37ef2

Hi, I use a givi T432 tank bag, They sell it as Monster specific. I've had it four years now and its been 1000's of miles on 3 different Monsters now. Real easy to use as the straps stay on the bike when on trips. You still have to move it to refuel but it is so easy its no hardship.
Its expandable and the pockets are great for toll money etc.

Such a nice bike - why not "splash out" on a kriega to suit? Some things are just worth the money... :)
