View Full Version : You can look and touch but you can't ride!

I have been thinking that if I had a big enough house with a huge hallway or other suitable room, I would like to have a two-wheeled exhibit purely to look at and from time to time to polish. It would have to be stunning to look at just standing there, a real work of art. The advantage would be that it wouldn't matter if it was a notoriously unreliable model because it would never be ridden.

At first, I thought I would like an original blue & silver 900SS from 1975 because it was the first Ducati I ever rode & it was so different from anything else available at the time. But, I (think) I would choose a Paul Smart Sport Classic which I think is even more gorgeous. It has a 'spareness' and a real sense of purpose. I don't think I could ride one on a regular basis either because of the riding position so I would just like one to look at.

I would however have it with the 2 into 1 Termi pipe as the standard black pipes were ugly IMO. This is allowed under the rules because they were an official option from dealers!

What would you choose and why? (and you are allowed only one!) Also, where would you keep it?

Colin the Chromo..... cause he's a lovely bike ... mind you id have to really do some dusting!!...
Most things I could have as a scultpture as I am too short to ride um..
I heck I would have to buy a little step to stand on to polish ...hmmmmph.

I have a mini moto monster in my living room!! Because I like it!

This:

Why: because it is superb and rare only 2 that were supercharged out of 30. It is an iconic motorcycle.

Where: In the middle of a room on a display.

For me I would have a '48 Cucciolo Racer, so pretty and wouldn't take up much room.

For me it would have to be a 998S Bostrom. I had one which lived in the conservatory and was mint. I only rode it a few times. I had to sell it this time last year and there's still a big hole where it used to be.

For me it would have to be the ex-Loris Capirossi GP bike that JHP have in their showroom. If I win the Euromillions tomorrow I'll speak to them about buying that and / or the Ex Bayliss BSB 996 they also have in at the moment. :D

There are 2 ex Capirossi and Gibernau 990's sat in a garage not too far from me...along with a crated RGV250, RC45 and Yamaha R7 !

I very nearly had the dining room wall knocked through a couple of years back to put a glass wall in and display a tidy superlight MK4. It was very clean but the motor was seized so it was cheap. Overuled by the duchess !

I had ths conversation between xmas and new year. My sister in law has got a HUGE place set in 30 acres with massive hallways and reception rooms just gagging for a bike collection ! Top of my list would probably be an ex fallappa 888 corse or failing that Foggys original '97 WSB racer which I'm a bit obsessed with mainly because unlike modern race bikes it just took the original 916 colours and had a few subtle logos making it look uber cool. Heres the original...

Nat, that 97 bike does look rather gorge!

I would have Frankie Chili's 2003 998

And heres the wannabe replica I built out of an old nail that resides in the garage ! I never use it now - just sits under its blankey connected to a Ctek charger. Sad really. Maybe I should knock the wall down and stick that in the house !!! Then again, maybe I should get a life, stick some new hoops on it and fire it round the racetrack again (it goes like f***!!).

As an indication of my addiction Ive also attached a scale replica model I built of it last year that sits in the office - lol !!

Front wheel in first, paddock stand on a small piece of carpet, then slide the carpet sideways until the back end is in. It's a tiled floor so it helps it to slide. Simples, well not really as it's a bit heavy but it went in.
