My new arrival (S4R) is fitted with an Arrows Ti systems and has not had any ECU mods (as yet) the DB killers are fitted and the bike goes well, but on the over run it pops and bangs, is this normal for these pipes??

Yes, the more open the pipe is, the more likely you will get the popping... personally, I think that is the best part...

I don't mind the noise, was just concerned about problems with the engine/fueling if i don't stop it.

You've got a leak in the exhaust systems somewhere - that's the usual cause of popping on the overrun. Resealing the pipe joints using Silicon bathroom sealant should sort it

thanks for that Pedro will give it a go. :)

The popping is caused by air being drawn in through leaky joints in the exhaust and allowing unburnt fuel to be burnt in the exhaust. If the joints are sealed properly, then it shouldn't pop.

My 1000 did it when I first fitted the Sil Motor Header but a quick look revealed a small amount of carbon being blown out of the joint on the rear header. Once sealed, the popping went away

Had the same issue when I fitted the Arrow full system to my S4R - was leaking at the front pipe. Fitted a new 'v'-shaped gasket which helped for a week or so, then I had spring clips welded on to the header and pipe and fitted a spring as per the other joints - never had a issue since. Hope that helps.

Cheers guys thanks for the info, I sealed the pipe joints last night and tested her out on the way to work this morning and WOW no more Popping and Banging, also seems to run smoother and ticks over better, so

What did you use to seal it?

I did a quick seal with some exhaust gum as a temp fix, but i'm off to the hardware store today to get some silicon sealant and i will then strip the exhaust and rebuild it whilst sealing it with silicon.

Mine is blowing a little from the front header where it meets the de cat pipe...sadly, no popping or banging though...

Apparently a good sealant is Dow Corning Firestop 700....

will any silicon sealant do or does it need to be heat resistant?

I have seen posts from others that have used bathroom sealant and they say it is fine... If it was me I would go to a fire specialist shop and get heat resistant..

Bathroom sealant blew out or burnt out, but certainly didn't work on the front joints :o
