Just seen this on MCN and it looks really useful and makes it look easy.
I have always found cleaning the chain a little akward.

Anyone used this?
It it quite expensive - about £40

Any ideas on cleaning it in a cheaper fashion?

Yeah what Scrapps said, all sorts of products to help keep a chain clean, I use a chain cleaning gel which I got a bottle of for free that's pretty good, but before that just a quick scrub, used to use a little bit of petrol if it was really dirty.

Amount of money you spend on products keeping it clean could probably just buy a new one in the same time :)

Try something like this... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WURTH-BRAKE-CHAIN-CLEANING-KIT-WITH-GIFT-BAG_W0QQitemZ390076762583QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Mot orcycle_Parts?hash=item5ad26309d7&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_2515wt_1025

I bought one from them a few weeks ago, with a best offer of about £17. The lube and cleaner are worth just short of that, so effectively get the brush for free.

The case is handy too!

Why would you clean the chain? Not a wind up honest! I never do and get 20k+ miles out of mine with a scottoiler.

I've got a scottioler too and I never need to clean my chain - I guess it must be self cleaning - new oil on all the time and all that!

...because amongst other things, cleaning is about weekly inspection not ignoring a chain for 10k miles at a time and then eventually wondering why there's a dirty great hole in the back of your crankcase. I'd avoid all gimicky cleaners and stick to a good lube/oil and a weekly 10 minutes of love.... off to lube mine now because I just came in after a rainy ride. I also get 20k+ miles out of a chain including commuting most days, touring, trackdays and weekend hoons. Presumably these 'self cleaning' chains are adding to the purple diesel slicks buses leave on roundabouts.

I got a tin of Wurth dry-lube as part of my prize at the weekender, just done the chain today with it, ready for the Ducati day at Rivvy barn on Sunday.
Hold the nozzle about six inch away from the chain, the force of the spray blows crap off it.
It doesn't drip off the chain like some of the others do, seems to dry pretty instantly...that's possibly why it's called dry-lube...innit?
