Hi all been working on my engine recently: repainted; nichols flywheel and opened wet clutch cover with lexan! Sent the loose engine to have the valves re-shimmed and turns out the two opening rockers on front head have lost all their plating!!

I either cough up £240 for a pair of new rockers or find used ones, but no luck so far. But then a breaker i contacted tells me that the later carbed 750 heads should fit my 1999 m600, and he has got them for £300 for a pair, and all rockers are fine! That would give me larger valves which sounds good, doesnt it?

Checked ducati parts catalogue and sure enough the cylinder head gasket, cam, cam pulley, cam belt are all the same parts! I think the only reason the cylinder heads have different part numbers is because they are supplied with valve seats and guides pre-installed.

So does anyone know if they will fit and be a straight swap? Same cams surely means the cams wont have to be dialled in?

Then again anyone know where i can get good condition used rockers?

Thanks

Thanks Kato.

Been watching those cylinder heads myself! May get them for the meanwhile but considering the 750 heads later.

Will there be no valve clearence issues with the bigger valves? Ive already got FCR39 carbs so they should work well with 750 heads, probably not even need rejetting!

Ive never heard or read of anyone swapping the heads over before because in theory they should make a hell of a difference!!

No problems with valve clearance 750 might have slightly bigger valves but cam is the same as your 600 so timing and lift are the same

I reckon you'll lose compression by fitting the larger heads. It would be worth checking with a Ducati specialist first. They may well fit but the 750 has domed pistons rather than flat ones and the heads are more concave to accomodate the domes. In effect you will be inceasing the CC slightly but the piston will be the same size so will have less compression.
I'm sure you will need to alter the jetting on your carbs too.
It's got to be easier and cheaper to fit a replacement engine.

Or buy the cheap 750 heads and rob the rockers out of them?
