Hi All
Bought a K&N air filer and want to open up my airbox
Loathed to cut big holes in my current one so am looking for a 2nd hand airbox that will fit my s2r 800 2006
which ones fit? 620? 695?
I have heard that just cutting the top off causes undue air turbulence, can some one point me in the direction of a better method ie where to drill and how big, ideally with some pics :-)
thanks

The Ducati Performance air-box (actually it’s the lid) kit has the whole top cut off and what looks like a K&N filter. You would assume they wouldn’t sell it with the whole top cut off if it was detrimental. I fitted the kit 6 months ago and it runs sweet with no problems at all, sounds great as well when you open up the throttle.
dont cut your airbox
just two 22mm holes on front
thats' enough

Would cutting holes in the airbox require anything else to be done (remapping, etc) as I assume this would make the bike run more lean?

Yes you would need to get your bikes fueling adjusted to account for the increased airflow

I ride an S2R...would the ECU not optimise the mixture automatically? Sorry if that's a daft question, it's my first fuel injected bike!!

No the ecu will adjust to compensate , my old s2r ran perfectly with dp air box, cored cans , de-cat AND a jmo tail chop.
Sorry to disagree but I changed the cans (hi-level termis -> lo-level remus) on My M1000Sie recently and instantly noticed the bike trying much harder to wheelie in the first 3 gears, a quick check of the CO% in the exhaust showed it was running very lean with the new pipes.

So is that a YES it would need to be remapped by a mechanic?

On my S2R when I fitted open Termis, hi-fow air filter with open airbox, and removed the cat, my bike ran very lean. The dealer tried to adjust the air/fuel mix on the ECU with the Mathesis but there just wasn't a big enough range of adjustment there. I had to fit a PC3 to get the fuelling right. Well worth it though.
