I received a letter from Ducati today instructing me to contact the dealer regarding a safety recall on my bike . Theres not a lot of information in the letter about the nature of this problem . Does anyone know what they are on about?

Just checked and the recall is not listed on VOSAs webste yet.

Hmmm, not heard of this.

I'm going to assume it's nothing urgent or serious.

Best to check your bike for chaffing cables, that sort of thing.

I had a look over on DMF. There are the three known 'service bulletins', rather than recalls. And nothing new or worrysome mentioned (not to say this isn't 'breaking news').

Pre-empting the usual cries of 'what recall?!'...

Mine was one of the very first batch and had these done at the end of the Summer. Later bikes shouldn't require these, so no need to be alarmed if you're a newer 696 owner :)

From a post on www.ducatisti.co.uk

It is a full VOSA safety recall #768....
It is for "the main wiring harness needs to be inspected and, if necessary repositioned"....

Interesting that it's only reposition 'if necessary'.

I don't think it's too much to worry about. I've done 3500 miles without a problem and my 696 is a year old on 16th June, so I'll probably book it in for a service in June and get it done then. It's too much of a faff to get to a dealer for me. I'll give them a ring first.
