Just had to book me monster in for full service, belts, the works...whole day in and costing £411...oh well I spose it's worth it...he's not running terribly well at the moment so this could help to make the riding experience even more pleasurable lol.

Gotta be done...right?

are they checking valve clearance as well? poor running could be down to carbs needing balancing. I mean, if is only oil, filters and belts is a bit steep IMO,considering you can replace your belts in a couple of hours(including tea break) sounds more a 4 valves type of price.

hi
i just had belts, plugs, air filter, mot, tune and balance for 210.
not fuel or oil filter.
from a bloke round the corner from me!
It wasnt a ducati dealer, just a bloke who works on bikes, i thought that was ok!

That does sound a little steep.

I would imagine about four hours labour maximum for a major service - belts, oil, valves clearances + consumables. Would cost around £300 - £350 in my neck of the woods.

When I first bought my previous bike - a 1995 M600 - I paid around £450 for a major service, but that included a set of tyres.

It's Riders in Bridgwater...they're doing the works plus MOT...

Now just gotta figure out how I'm gonna get home for the day...or what to do for a whole day on an industrial estate...albeit one with three bike shops...hmm...don't spose they give ya a bike for the day?!!!

You can always ask - or take 2 or 3 bikes out for a test ride :mand:

Snells in Alton do the intrim service oil/filter/plugs/clearances/fuel filter and a general look around for £295.
The belts service with all of the above is £395 so not too far off a main dealer scheduled cost.

Well, they are gonna give me a loan-bike for the day...no idea what yet though...ooh wouldn't it be nice if it was the 848 demo bike!!! Somehow doubt that though! Be good to have my Monster running nicely :)

Loan bike? Do they not sell Harleys at Riders? it might be a 1200 sportster like Benson had last week ( different dealer) - she could lend you her leather chaps and studs :ymca:

It's an H paivi -UKHyperOwnersClub as designed by roger. It most definitely does not stand for "Harley".
I suppose I should change it to UKHAMOC ( UK Hyper and Monster Owners club)

Out of warranty i would not use a main dealer.... I am fortunate that there are 3 people i my neck of the woods that specialise in Ducs and they are all good...

Standard cost of the next full, main service for me 749S at a Ducati dealer is over £700 :eek::eek:
I have been putting it off for months now but will have to bite the bullet if she is going to be out in the glorious weather we are gonna have this summer!

Raz, is that partly because it is a 4 valve?

Raz, is that partly because it is a 4 valve?

I think it's more to do with the 749/999 testastretta engine design which is renowned for high cost of maintenance (not entirely sure mechanically why, but not just because it has 4 valves). This is something owners complained about and Ducati addressed with the latest 848/1098/1198 engines which have been specifically designed with much lower cost of maintenance in mind.

I have been tempted to trade up to the 848 for the much lower running costs. Amazing what you do to try and justify buying a new bike! :chuckle::chuckle:

Rode Monster for over an hour today and he was running a lot happier after that...still konked out at roundablout coming off motorway though...oh well, he's in for his big day tomorrow! And then he's getting some lovely shiny new cans and having his tail-chop done...oh and probably some drop bars...has anyone else got these???...

Well...they gave me 1200 Buell...tiny little thing, built for midgets, rode like a tractor, vibrations so bad it hurt my feet, had to keep lifting them off the pegs! My bike isn't going to be ready til tomorrow and I had planned a ride-out so asked if they'd swap it for something else...they tried to give me a Harley (not my thing) so I thought I'd be cheeky and ask for an 848 demo bike overnight...and they only went and said yes!!! So, for 24 hours I am enjoying it...then hopefully my beautiful monster will be a lot happier after his service...he was backfiring and konking out all the way there this morning...have just bought some drop bars and a little fairing and screen for the front and some lovely conti cans...he's getting a makeover...will get pics up when done :)

My last full service on trike cost £150. This was less oil/filter change as I did this myself & I supplied the belts + other parts needed. Not a Ducati dealer (obviously) but it works for me :mand:

How did you get on with the 848 then Monstachicky - has it superseded the need for a GSXR?
