having spent today re-cutting sarahs valve seats, re-profiling the valves etc. all my shims are too big to be able to measure for valve clearence. (the valves now fit deeper into the head )
is there an easy way to get measurements to get new shims ? measuring off the rocker is tricky as its curved, is stacking up the feeler guages the best way ?

An EMS shim kit would be best option , when i replaced alll the rockersand valves on the S4 i spent 3 days measuring and reshimming to get it right, having a box of shims available was a godsend.

Feeler gauges should still fit between rocker and shim if not clearance is too tight , shims can be ground down on a wet stone.

Jerry are the boxes universal or specific to manafacturers?

And on the financial side are they expensive?

Most dealers will stock shim kits for the aircooled bike, tho they used not to have ones in that were suitable for the M1000sie. Not cheap, but worth having in the garage if doing them yourself.

would it be worth trying to see if we could do a bulk order and get them cheaper.

The only problem with the shim kits , is that you only have one of each size and I have had to buy extra shims because often you seem to need more of certain sizes ,, for instance my S4 loves 3.05,3.10 openers and 2.85mm closers and I seem to need 3or 4 of these.

I somtimes grind down larger sizes from the kit if I cannot easily access more of the correct size,in Thailand.
