I'm having probs removing the bearings, so i thought i would ask, just in case special tools are needed.

The bearings etc, have all been washed in petrol to remove the grease.

This shoulder is preventing the bearings from being removed from the spindle.

Any advice please?

Cheers,

Doing mine at the moment. The top came out easily and the bottom was cut out with an angle grinder.

just warm it with a blow torch, its not a really tight fit.

Cheers guys, i'll get the blowtorch lit tomoz.
Just posted in case it was more involved.
What gets me, is that i used a drift to get the top bearing out, the bottom one came out with the yoke and spindle, after a gentle nudge with the mallet.
I then dropped the top bearing back on the spindle, until i had time to clean everything, hoe the hell did it just drop back on the spindle (pic1 on 1st post), then sticking?

I got http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cht226-bearing-separator/path/automotive-hand-tools when we did seby's yokes, shifted them enough to do the job.

when i did sarahs, just warmed inner sleeve of bearing and used a couple of screwdrivers to slide the bearing up enough to use a drift. when you come to re-assemble, put the stem and yoke in the freezer over night. if like us you are lucky enough to have an AGA style oven, put the bearing in the plate warmer part as well, if not, warm the bearing by putting in a plastic bag and then putting the bag in boiling water. this makes it realy easy to get the bearing back on the stem

Bearing in a bag - that'll make a change from cod in butter sauce eh? lol.
Seriously though, cheers for the advice and tips.
I've done headstock bearing replacement many times, usually on jap bikes where the bearings tend to come off quite easily, so because this is my first Ducati, i thought i would make sure that i got the right info, from those who know these bikes much better than i do.

Cheers.
