I've just put some R1 Harris after market clip-ons on my 98 M600.

They look sweet, the bike rides much better and I'm generally very happy with it. Only problem is the clutch and brake fluid reservoirs on the stock Brembo master cylinders are so large (and die cast as one piece) that I can't quite get the angle of the levers right for my riding position.

So I have some questions!

1. So I can find some alternatives. I'd like to know the specifications for the stock unit master cylinders i.e. i think they are both 16 x 18. Is that correct?

2. What do the two numbers refer to? I'm guessing diameter and stroke respectively?

3. What alternatives from other bikes (clutch and front brake) would work which have separate fluid reservoirs pots?

4. What is the effect of using a different spec master cylinder? I want to decrease the force required to pull in the clutch at the lever as due to a previous injury to my wrist I find it hard to do now. (I think that to decrease the force at the lever I need to use a smaller diameter master cylinder with a longer stroke.)

5. Alternatively are there any clutch kits which might reduce the force required to disengage it?

Thanks for your help!

1. I believe you're right, both 16 x 18 on single disc models.

2. Correct, 16mm=diameter and 18mm=stroke.

3. 900 Ducatis tend to have gold coloured master cylinders with seperate resevoirs,
the clutch cylinder will be the same dimensions, brake will be 19x18 from a twin disc model. Search for 'Brembo master cylinder on eBay, they come up regularly.
Aprilia, Benelli etc should all be fine. There are several on there now but all around the £50-70 mark, you should be able to pick one up for a lot less if you're prepared to watch and wait a bit.

4. I think that to decrease the force at the lever I need to use a smaller diameter master cylinder with a longer stroke. Correct again!

5. Yes, you can get uprated clutch slave cylinders suitable for a 98 Monster
eg. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ducati-racing-clutch-slave-cylinder-1098-Monster-SuSp_W0QQitemZ190274995861QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Mo torcycle_Parts?hash=item190274995861&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1299%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318
or from most dealers

Didn't the 600 (and 750) have the clutch slave cylinder built into the clutch cover on the R/H side?
From memory I recall a bleed nipple for the clutch sticking out of the R/H side of the case... or was that on the really early ones...

Only upto '97. Looking at Chris' first photo that's a late model bike.

Slob thanks for the info.

As for the clutch master cylinder, it can be removed separately from the clutch cover by unscrewing 3 cap head bolts. Does that mean I can use the uprated cylinder the Slob suggested?

The slave cylinder bolts to the generator cover, the clutch cover is on the r/h side but yes you can.
