View Full Version : ** Ukmoc - 2009 Track Day !!

J.P

Ok, so here's the idea.
In the past the UKMOC have hosted a track day for members, but if you've been around when they've been organized you'll know how difficult they can be to guarantee attendance and minimise the risk of not filling all the spaces at the cost to individuals.

Well, I love track days and I think there are plenty of other members who 'd also like to give it a try for the first time or come along for the fun in a safe environment.
So what I've done, with the backing of the club Presidents, is speak to a company called RAPID TRAINING, about being able to block book spaces, for MOSTER OWNERS, without the hassle of the club having to make all the arrangements and carry the full cost. Now there won't be all the extra Ducati UK backing as it's a normal track day, but the more spaces we can fill, the more it'll feel like our own day.

The outline is this. I'll probably take 45-50 spaces, of the 100 or so at one of their track days, split between beginners & intermediates, and then get club members to take the slots. If there's excess demand, members can apply to the company directly when they release the remaining spaces.

So there are TWO DATES that are best taking into account all factors, but I need a consensus of which one people want most.

ROCKINGHAM - MONDAY, 1ST OF JUNE
CADWELL PARK - MONDAY, 3RD OF AUGUST

PLEASE PLACE YOUR VOTE ABOVE, EVEN IF YOU CAN'T GUARANTEE GOING NOW, BUT WHAT ONE WOULD YOU PREFER IF YOU COULD ?

Cost will be about £120 per head. Noise limit 105 decibels (no exceptions).
50% due on booking to reserve your space, and the balance 8 full weeks before the track day. I'll be running bookings & payments.

I've used Rapid Training a number of times and found them some of the best run & best natured track days going, so no need to feel scared.

SO MAKE YOUR CHOICE !

Love Cadwell but haven't tried Rockingham, no preference, delighted to do either.

I'd love to take my own bike out on a track for a 'committed ride' without having to worry about speed limits, so I could just focus on riding. It would be my first time, so I'd need a novice grouo.

If this event is suitable, then I'd be in. Rockingham preferred.

Thanks for the effort here JP - I hope the event really takes off - but not the bikes....

J.P

Don't worry, the trackday is suitable for all novices. It'll be the best day you've had on your bike.
It never ceases to amaze me the change in complete novice riders from the first lap to the last lap.
Fantastic

I voted for Rockingham simply coz I've not ridden there and it's more central than Cadwell, but I'll do Cadwell if needs be. I'm happy to attend a UKMOC TD bit I'll be on the track bike and not the Monster.

do both venue's insist on one piece leathers?

J.P
28-11-2008, 02:24 PM
No, two piece leathers are fine but they HAVE to zip together all the way round. It's for your own good really.

slob
28-11-2008, 02:26 PM
Usually two-piece are fine as long as the zip goes all the way round middle.
I'll let J.P confirm that though since I have no personal experience of a Rapid Training day.

....doh! too slow.

My question would be - will any of them allow me to use the trike?

My first track day!

I voted for either, but that was before I checked my work diary, already booked on 1st June so Cadwell might work better.

Can always try and move it otherwise, just confirm as soon as we can so I can book the day off!

JerryXt

I'd imagine a few of us will take a van to either venue. I certainly will and I'll have space for one bike at least if someone wants to share.

Depends on make and length of can. Low level ovals are quieter than high level round cans, possibly due to longer silencer and greater area of wadding? Sil's and WRP high level rounds are mental without extra baffles, and are usually sold as 105db cans. DP high level's are also fairy quite as they have a long can, which often leads to the 'wheel barrow' effect on tail chopped bikes.

Why is there a 105db limit, the place is miles from anywhere, Mallory I could understand. Wasn't like that when Charlie owned it.

J.P
01-12-2008, 05:37 PM
105 db's seems to be the norm for a lot of the tracks nowadays. Seems the councils don't like the throb of a v-twin carrying across the countryside. Can't understand why .....

Its the rice munchers that upset the council not the deep throb of the mighty twin

I went to the Morini owners trackday at cadwell 3 years on the trot. Always stayed at a B&B the night before and after the track day, as this event was more the annual Morini get together + trackday & AGM all rolled into one weekend.

Three Horse shoes at Glouceby (sp?) used to have camping on site - not sure if they still do?

Also stayed at a pub called the White Heart a few miles from the track

The ride up on thursday night was always a blast... ah the A15 via Sleaford... Morini heaven :)

I'd be surprised if they'd allow you to circulate with two-wheelers on safety grounds, probably without even considering it properly... can you picture a trackday where cars and bikes where allowed out together? that said, I imagine your ideal lines would be quite different to most bikes.
Then again asking costs nothing and if you don't ask... you won't get.

Hi jerry hows it going matey... looking forward to next years trackdays with the ss.

JerryXt
10-12-2008, 12:06 PM
Scrapps, yes, going well! We should do a few next year - the ones I enjoy most are where there's a bunch from here having a laugh rather than being uber competitive d*cks.

Lucrezia has some lovely new termis on - I got some ti sleeves instead of the standard carbon and had the pipes polished - satinised according to Mark. She's looking very, very nice!

Got a new toy to play with over the winter - the previous owner is a really nice guy - literally spent Desmo money on his 749R - I kid you not, this thing produces more power than Lanzis race bike. But it went down a few trackdays ago and needs a bit of love to get it back to 100% condition.

Little asbo has a new frame going on at the moment - the one that matches the 998S lump, so she'll be a proper 998S. Sean found that the head bearings were tight and notchy, which wasn't helping turning in, or feedback in the bends - funny as I was always complaining that it was hard to turn in and I didn't trust the front in corners :D Getting some shorter offset yokes to help it turn more quickly and the engine is having a refresh and some head work.

I'll likely bring both bikes to the trackday and you must take asbo out at some point. JP too! Gadget is welcome as long as he promises not to ride it like his 583...

not bling, just required to keep me the right way up :)

Good idea going for the suspension first - it's where you'll get most benefit. That race shock David was twiddling with was incredible compared to the standard road one, but for all its adjustability, he only needed a click of compression from what it had been set to.

When are you out next? I'm (track) bikeless for the moment, but should get something back together for the Spring. And seriously, take asbo out - Gadget won't be passing you then!

JP, I've been lusting after that little 749 for a long time. When it came up for less than an 848...

Has anyone taken a look at RIDEDRIVE who do various motorcycle course to help people develop riding skills and safety yet still enjoying the performance of ones machine??

A chap at Circuit Based Training also does machine handling courses tailored to individuals or groups and its all done on the race circuit at Mallory Park. Trackday and skills development that is road biased all in one package just ask for SHAUN.:ukm:
