Just trying to work out if my bike is caning fuel or not and thought it might be interesting to get some of you lot to post your average mpgs...

I'll start, I'm getting an abysmal 30mpg, and have booked it in to try and work out whats wrong!

c.45mpg City riding depending on how I feel.

A hell of a lot more if on a ride out/countryside.

30mpg is pretty rubbish, IMO. Could be down to caneing(sp?) it.

LOL I was worrying when mine got to 153 on a tankful, thought the sensor had died and I was in imminent danger of a deeply embarrassing stop.
Topped up the tank and got about 13 and a bit litres in which is around 50 ish mpg.
Usually I'm getting about mid 40's but I'd never be accused of hanging about ;)

Yeh I get to about 80 miles and the light comes on!! It might have had something todo with the dud spark plug i have just replaced, but either way i booked it in to have the carbs balanced or something, which apparently might help it...

I was expecting more like 40 when I bought it, I gotta be honest!

fuel light usually comes on at 100-105 miles, sometimes a bit more. can squeeze another 20 out of it at a push (literally).

most i've ever got in it is £13.40.

so what's that, 40mpg?

Nickj

All depends how you ride it, I run up to 60-80 and then just roll off the throttle so it keeps there but on real low throttle. Usually I seem to be using 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. Where possible I don't roll off for much, well only when I have to.

madmarvin
18-09-2008, 08:02 PM
i dont think i'm that throttle heavy, as i'm a bit of a newb, but i dont stick around a lights like...

That's pretty sh*te for a 750, I think you might wanna get it tuned up! Depending on the mileage, you may find the needles or emulsion tubes in the carbs are worn which won't help.

My 900 gives 45ish on average, mix if normal and brisk riding. My 1000 gives about 37 normal riding and sod all when I'm in a hurry.... like 73 miles to the light coming on....

Thats what i thought, either way I've got it booked into a local Duke specialist and I'll mention your answers so he should be able to sort it out :)

thanks for all the responses

I meant the comment about having a tight arse! I should use a better description when speaking about my finances.

My M600 fuel light usually comes on having done 95 miles. Mixed Sunday use and commuting. Costs £13 to fill up from the light being on, which I do pretty quickly. So at £1.10 a litre that's 11.8 litres / 2.6 gallons = 36.5 MPG. Is this a bit rubbish?

If you're nailing up all the steep hills available like a tour of totterdown then could be about right.
Try an experiment.. LOL go on humour me here,, change up a gear about 1-2000 revs earlier and keep the revs below 7000 (imagine that the engine will explode and the rear head end up lodged very firmly in your groin if you go above this). You'll get 110-120 a tank full.
Boring though

Re the M600. The other day I got 164 miles from a tank on my M600. This was only unusual because I was with an IAM fella and we had a very 'restrained' ride. I like to think I was giving the locals more time to view the beauty of the monster. Normally though, I do 150 miles before thinking about filling up, regardless of how I ride (and I do ride fast). To be honest, I've never seen the low fuel light and I suspect it may be broken.

Blah blah
19-09-2008, 07:24 PM
I did about 100 miles on £10 at £1.20 a litre until the light came on, and another 20 until it ran out (literally) as I rolled onto the forecourt !!

Never bothered to work out the mpg, but on the S2R 800 I get about 130 mls until the light comes on.
The S2R 1000 does about 140 mls until the reserve light comes on.

steeevvvooo
19-09-2008, 08:15 PM
I used to get about 140 to a full tank (think I once got about £15 in it?) until the light came on.

Not done a full tank since I took the top off the airbox and had the carbs balanced / set up, but I'm not expecting it to improve.

That's commuting through Central London.

I am getting about 10miles per litre thrashing it on country A roads - so that is about 45mpg. Then again I can't pretend the carbs are well tuned :mand:

well i think all of you who get 150 miles are lucky or ride like grannies. most i ever had was 136.

Thing is you cant risk runnning with the fuel light on. Usually it comes on after myouve been pushing for 5 minutes.

madmarvin
24-09-2008, 04:29 PM
well i just took it to the local duke specialist (Tim Hyett @ Moto-Vation - highly recomended - 07899 685623) and he said the carbs are pretty well balanced, so I guess my bike is just a guzzler!! got the most of 90 miles before the light comes on on about £15 worth of fuel - alas, its a fun 90 miles!!

About 100 to the tank on m900, sorry used to own a benelli tnt, that bitch drank fuel like it had a hole in the tank, with a bit of hard, fun riding, got it down to 55 a tank. That was when it had to go

I also only get about 80 miles to a tank on my s2r800 ie before the fuel light,
never tried testing how big the reserve is (i have been told its pitifully small approx 16 miles worth according to previous owner)

but I have been riding mainly in the city and i'm a bit of a newb too so just cant help gunning the throttle now and again on my way to and from work, it just helps me get through the day :D

depending on how and where your riding, your milage could well be normal

Just managed 30.6 miles to the gallon before my S4R ran out after 85 miles and I had to push it.

The last time i did a check, i put a tenner in when the light had been on for about five miles, when the light came on the next time, the speedo showed 78 miles.
I haven't got around to checking it with a full tank yet.

Fuel light comes on at 85 miles on the S4R 996, which is about 10.5 ltrs of fuel. I have managed to keep going till 102 miles before I bottled it and decided to fill up.

The tank holds 15 ltrs so should be good for 130 miles before walkies, I am guessing.

Yep, I only get 90 miles to the light from 10 quids worth of fuel. On my commute I'm refilling every two days, whereas on my Transalp I refill every four days. I would love a bigger tank for my commuting!

Had full race setting on the bike and fuel light was coming on at 55-60 miles. Subsequently had the mapping changed and now getting about 80ish around town before the light comes on. Easily getting 90-100 before the light on a run and I always fill up with V-Power as it seems to like it. I'm sure its just psychological though.

I'm getting an average of 45mpg plus on my 695. It's not run in yet so I ride with 'vigour' to 6-7k rpm

The worst I've ever had is £65 to fill up my old merc (no longer got it) covering around 250 miles (about 18-20)mpg.

I visited my parents in scotland the other week and there was a truckie filling up next to me. £1500 smackers to fill it up :)
