Is it worth putting the posh stuff in?

Nope, not in a 600. Or any Monster for that matter.

It's only stuff like Scoobies and Evo's that will get the full benefit of high octane fuel as they have knock sensors that will adjust the ignition timing to optimise it without pre-ignition or detonation happening

The only time you should consider using higher octane (98) fuel in an M600 is during the winter time. It helps prevent carb icing on cold mornings.

In theory the higher energy density should let you get a few miles extra per gallon, you get a bigger cleaner bang (relatively) with more octane but it's so insignificant it's not worth counting.

I use the super stuff in all my bikes. They tend to stand around for long periods of time without being ridden and I find the super stuff doesn't tend to go off as quick.

I work in the oil & gas industry and pretend to know a little about petrol, Shell V-Power is actually very high-tech and is worth putting in purely for the cleaning additives (no I don’t work for anyone associated with Shell), I can’t pretend to know much about its power benefit to bike engines but it has won loads of car mag tests with power gains.

I’ve been using V-power and Optimax before it for years, my wife and I do so little miles that the added cost over standard is negligible, I obviously appreciate for high-milers it will add up though.

Every car we’ve had had appreciated the higher octane, especially turbo and our current supercharged engine, even my wife’s ‘old’ Cooper loved it, the cars have all just seemed to run smoother. I’ve actually had mega-turbos re-mapped to advance the timing etc as I would only be using the 99 octane fuel.

Anyway, for the added £2 per tank I’ve been filling my 620 up with V-Power and it seems to be running fine, haven’t tried standard so have nothing to compare it with though. My next tweak is a Power Commander as I’ve fitted a set of Termis and the DP air filter/box so presume I’ll be able to have it mapped to take into account the 99 fuel again.

My M900 really does run differently with optimax I'm convinced of it - have no technical answers to this post but the engine is smoother, goes for more miles and just seems happier. The Buell also runs better for longer with it or the Excellium stuff from Total. The Hyper lasts about 5 minutes for each tank so I can't say anything makes any difference to that!!!

I just use normal stuff in the R1. Its quick enough as it is, I couldn't handle it being any quicker :chuckle: I'm joking, of course I could :D

Raquel ('74 MK1 Escort) has ordinary unleaded too but you have to stuff twigs and mud into the tank then advance the ignition before she'll run  :chuckle:

Higher energy density Benson, you'd notice it more stuffing in bigger gobs of fuel

I have no idea. I was just wondering. Anyway fuel... Ooo smells nice :D

Aha - energy density - like eating a weight watchers cake or a Waitrose one - I get it now... Mine's a raspberry brulee.....

Just so Benson....

Makes it a more difficult decision...

Do you go for the fat free cardboard substitute :grump:

OR

The full of fatty goodness and deliciousness

hahahahaha I think that may have been a rhetorical question

Same with fuel I guess

I did find that the full fat stuff made a noticable difference in my old M600, but not a jot in the S2R.
