What tank bags are people using? As in all hte catalogues and sites, the vast majority, or sometimes the only ones people sell are magnetic! arg!

I have a Bagster and a magnetic one. I much prefer the Bagster because it stays on the tank when I brake hard because of the tank cover that it clips to.
They turn up on Ebay now and again.

oxford sports (expandable) with magnets and you can zip it off to make a map holder and rucksack (it might have come with an extra random zip on subsection unless that came from somewere else for if you don't do magnets) tend to use it more as a tailpack though

I have a GIVI strap on tank bag. Its great. Takes 2 mins to fasten straps to bike , 30 seconds once straps are on. Its easy to unclip to refuel. Holds enough gear for weekends away (I'm a bloke). Nice little pockets on front and sides makes toll booths easy and it expands too. I've had mine 3yrs now and its been all over europe with me without any problems. I'd recommend it to anyone.http://www.mandp.co.uk/productInfo.aspx?catRef=539276#

Oxford First Time Sports - magnetic or strap version.

This one does the job easily, as per Jim66a's comments but it may be a bit on the small side if you're taking quite a bit of gear.

Is perfect for a long weekend.

Hi,
I've an Oxford magnet, sticks ok upto the ton :woot:, never had any problems with it, apart from the lack of space, it's a 2 part, but with all the protection and zips i never seem to get much in, but at 5" 6' ish, it's great to rest my chin on at speed :spin:

I had the Givi Ducati bag, and while it's an excellent bag it did wear me down taking it off putting it back on, loosening the straps to fill up etc. It also needs some wonderweb underneath it to protect that soft stuff that Ducati thinks is paint.
On one occasion, whilst in a hurry lost patience and didn't take my time to mount the bag carefully and the result is 3 chafe marks, dull patches that I've never managed to polish out completely.

So I bought the SW-Mototech system where the bag mounts on the tank ring.
It takes about 2 seconds to fit it and 2 seconds to release it. It's a brilliant system the bag doesn't touch the tank, I lay on it on long trips.

The system does have its downsides though:
It's not cheap.
The tank ring is grey plastic should have been stainless or anodised.
The bags aren't that great esthetically. I use the Trial QL which follows the form of the S2rtank quite nicely and holds quite a bit.

Here's a picture of the ring mounted - can take a piccie of the bag mounted if you like (at the weekend).

I think, looking through, I might go with the Oxford 1st Time tank bag, and then the same tail pack. Its all about the benjamins (of should that be 'elizabeths'?!)!

id seriously have a look at the baglux/bagster range if i was you neil, not that im saying everything else is crap.

Its just that thye really are extremely well made, clip on and off easy as **** (2 secs tops) and your tank gets much better protection whilst on tour. Also it tends to hold its value better so the extra £40- £60 you spend at the beggining your gonna get back at the end.

heres a pic of my old monster strapped up with Kriega us20+us10 tail pack and the bagster tank cover with a 30ltr tank bag (lots of gear, you could probably drop the amount packed on the tank but it was fine whilst riding and its easy to rest your chest against with no problem on the handling)

this is an older model tank bag but still bloody good, they do loads of different sizes and shapes etc in the new range and they all fit any tank bra for any bike (aslong as theyre the same connector) they have built in rain covers and map pockets and at least your tank wont get scratched by the bag.

I have the Baglux as well. Not the Ducati one but their own (from Hein Gerich). Its red with white stripe to mach bike, only difference is the word Monster on the side. I can fit single air bed + 20 cans of beer + space left over!:booze:
