View Full Version : Will adding risers mean I have to change cables?

In my quest on making my Monster more comfortable I was thinking about getting a pair of risers to bring the bars toward me more.

I was thinking of getting the 30mm risers. Does anyone know if this will mean I have to change any of the stock cables and stuff??

I was thinking buying a set of these:

If you're going to raise them 30mm, then yes, you may have to chance the cables and/or hoses...

I didn't use risers on my bike, but got some higher bars (approx 50mm more than standard), and they were quite a bit wider too...

I ended up having to change the clutch and front brake hoses (Goodrich do kits you can make them up to any length you want) and my dealer got some longer throttle cables from Venhill. The electrics are ok length wise at least.

SazzaG fitted some Renthal bars (Road High version I believe) and they just fitted using the standard cables, although we had to reroute the throttle cables as I recall.

The reason I mention bars, is that Renthals are a similar price to the risers in the link you posted, and you can get so many variables - you might prefer something with a different sweep as well as rise for example?

I fitted 20mm risers from the same people and the hoses were only just long enough.

I think it was just the fast idle cable that had to be moved. Everything else was just about OK.

However, I've fitted 30mm risers to my S2R with the standard bars, and haven't had to change anything. I would recommend the renthals though.

Where could I go to check out some renthals? I'll may go see if Metropolis have any that I can offer upto my bike.
