You'll find the answer to all your questions if you do a search for "tail" and "chop".
But try this one for size!! I did!!
And so have a few others I think......

For the Shift-tech tail you DO cut the tail off!
About 85mm if I remember correctly.
Its a much much shorter version than the carbon dp job.

I've just ordered a Tail Chop Kit from Competition Werkes.
http://secure.compwerkes.com/Detail.bok?no=299
I couldn't find a stockist here so I've had to order it from the States.
Will let you know what it's like when it arrives.

i made my own bracket last year out of a piece of aluminium plate. i'll try and scan the template soon and post it as a word doc or something easy to print off.
got pulled by the mot tester tonight for no reflector at the back. gave me a cert but told me i should have one fitted. the $119.95 one in the ad above doesn't have one

doesn't chopping the frame back affect resale value?

true.
i not one for leaving any of my vehicles standard, but i wasn't sure of these were the sort of bikes where modified examples still sold as well as mint standard ones .

Method two:
1. Eat Coco Pops
2. Admire perfectly-sculpted, original, long, slender rump of Monster
3. Go for ride
4. Get home, eat more Coco Pops
Mmm. Coco Pops.
Reflectors can be adhesive items attached to the number plate itself in order to get the bike through the MOT. Friendly testers will do this for you, for the princely sum of a quid or thereabouts.

Here you go then, it's a work in progress rather than the finished article though...
The Comp Werkes kit would have been perfect out of the box if I were re-using the standard tail light & numberplate light, but as I've fitted a Foxtail integrated tail/numberplate light, I'm having to make a spacer to move the light rearwards otherwise it doesn't illuminate the numberplate.

Just grit yer teeth and get on with it Seby.
There are plenty of refrences/tutorials on the forum, the famous JMo has posted plenty about it.
I'm waiting for the nights to start drawing in, then it's going into the workshop over winter for a good seeing to, a tail chop being the first on the list.
Have fun mate!

Pure sex mate...and that's just the exhaust!
Tidy chop, i'm wating until i lay the bike up for winter before i get stuck into the mods on mine.
Wonder if you can get a 2/1 for the 900...?

That's how I wanted my exhausts to be when mine gets tidied, are they hugely expensive? I had seen Campbell ones which were a bit slimmer but aren't road legal so I can't have them.

That's not a motorcycle, it's a piece of art, the exhaust by it's self is amazing

That's the first Monster that has inspired me to do the chop - and that exhaust, very, very nice. I would chop what looks like a hanger near the seat lock.
Blah blah

Why would that stop you ????
Not as though I would condone that sort of thing officer, ahem.
I would chop what looks like a hanger near the seat lock.
...unless you ever wanted to refit the standard pipes.

I would bolt the tax disc to it . Who cares if its legally on the wrong side.

No, the bike looks so clean at the rear it would have to go! You could easily make a simple bracket that clamps around the frame for the oe exhaust.

The Termi cost me £250 off of fleabay, but new I think they're more like £450-500

Thank you all for your very complimentary comments.
I will be replacing the abhorrent plastic tax disc holder with a nice Oberon tubular affair.
I may now also remove the exhaust hanger - although it's only really noiticeable if you get down low beside the bike. From standing, you don't notice it.

Then what would you do with the bracket that the tax disc is currently bolted to?

They're well made (stainless), but I sprayed mine black as I don't do "shiney".
As I wasn't using the stock tail & number plate lights I had to fabricate a spacer to move the tail light rearwards.
Whether your number plate will fit or not is down to the size of plate you've got - I don't do tea-tray plates either - I run 7x5" plate & I would have thought that that should fit between the Termi's fine.

If you want neat rear indicators - Clear Alternatives make a combined LED insert that has has the indicators built into the rear light - either side basically flashes orange when you indicate then go back to red... works best with their clear lens...
