what sat nav systems does anyone use with the monster, and how have you mounted it ( pics would be good).

I use a voice only one in the car all the time, and having to stop all the time to look at the map on the bike is a pita... so Im looking for one for the bike... people seem to like the zumo, but yikes its pricey... Im probably looking for one that I'll just use the screen for rather than trying to hook up a speaker in my helmet..

cheers

Graham

edited to say:-

compairing the models am i right in thinking the only thing that the 400 doesnt have that the 550 does is voice street names and blue tooth, and the 500 just the blue tooth, or am i missing something fundamental

( ok and the car mount and car power lead :-) )

Can't go wrong with a Garmin Zumo & The supplied RAM Mount kit.

Add a Scala Rider bluetooth headset for Voice guidance/ Phone/ MP3/ FM Radio etc....

I've got the 550 and it works just as well in the car.

Heres the comparison link between them

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=135&compare=compare&compareProduct=9113&compareProduct=8583&compareProduct=414

The 550 you get the car mount and charger (about £70 if bought separately) and yes you get spoken street names. eg it says "turn right onto Sandy Lane"

mmm the zumo does seem to get the thumbs up.. is it really worth the extra for the 550 over the 400?

best prices i've found so far are £205 for the 400 and £340 for the 550

There's a bit more info in this post:

http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=27950

Think the 400 only comes with local maps (GB).

The 400 is UK only - no Bluetooth no Carmount

the 500 is Full European Maps, no carmount

the 550 is Full European Maps, with carmount + voiced road names.

ta..

mmmm, I probably only need the 400, as im not intending to go across the channel ( but then I might), and the blue tooth and voice names isnt needed as im not intending to get a headset.

but then I could do with the car kit as only my main car has twat nav

arghh..

cheers

Here you go...

the mount on the bars (actually done using another handlebar clamp), would've mounted it outside the clamps but the damper is in the way

With Zumo in place, it masks the rev counter but the speedo is clear. It's wired in to the side light in the headlight bowl with a splitter in the cable to allow the mount to be removed.

Hey Rog, can you copy the Euro maps of yours on to an SD card?

don't think so - there's an activation key thats hard coded into each unit.

Got an old brick of a Garmin, StreetPilot III. As I have renthall bars its held on using a Touratech mount.
Works fine, was cheap and the maps load onto memory sticks. One holds 75% of the UK or you can load chunks to map a swathe across europe.
Power is a fused take of of the battery.

I've got a Garmin Zumo - easy to use, touch screen.
the only thing wrong with it is that it sometimes prefers to send you down a one track lane rather than a highway.

The best thing about it is that you can plan your route on the PC before you go ( if you want0 and review it when you get home.

Ped - what mount is that on your Monster?

Mines mounted in pretty much the same position as Pedro, but on a RAM mount. I've also cut the cable and added a waterproof connector but mine's wired direct to the battery (using Optimate plug).

It's the RAM mount that came with it - I've ditched the U bolt as it wouldn't fit round the fatbars and used a black fatbar clamp. Only snag was that the RAM mount part needed filing out to take a slightly bigger bolt
