are you that insane ?

carbon fibre doesn't withstand impact as well as the plastic or metal tanks

you could realistically drop your bike on your drive and break it beyond repair

you want to save weight ? get a 696

you want it to 'look' carbon fibre get some anti scratch carbon covers for it

Beware there was an ebay scammer that dealt in CF monster tanks.
Can't remember exact details but I know it was recent and mentioned on this and some other monster sites.

go to a place that deals with carbon fibre and they will be able to make a "cover" for the tank that can be glued in place to make the tank look carbon but tis both if you get my gist.....a mate of mine worked in composites and did the above to his plastic motorcross bike tank....looked mutts nuts

I've still got a black metallic tank in my garage which would look good on your bike, check my earlier post for pictures.

I'd have thought the fuel tank doesn't weigh that much anyway. Its the weight of the stuff that goes inside it. If you want to save weight and cash (Altough technically not :) ) only put half a tank of fuel in ;)

Had a CF tank on my S4R and had a low speed wash out on the front end entering a roundabout. The clutch side handlebar bent and hit the tank putting a a 2 inch crack in the tank.
On talking to the insurance company they will replace the tank like for like. A new one is £1150 + VAT without the custom paint.
The garage doing the repair and the insurance had no problem with a CF tank being on the bike at all

During the time I owned Spareshack I had several standard metal tanks coated with carbon fibre which not only looked the nuts but also gave you the peice of mind of having a metal tank holding the fuel in the event of a spill.

Could probably find the contact if needed and from memory was about 30% of the price of buying a true carbon tank.

Metal tanks can be laminated with a CF skin, lengthy process but better choice than a full CF (unless you run a SBK team, that OS :)) should look at around 100 quid
