Please add your Names and Preferences to this thread. Please dont hijack it and if commenting keep it simple please. The idea is purely to find out how many for Alan C to pass info on to Mario or others and see who wants Train or ferry. It makes no difference if you want to come home sunday but it will tell you if you can ride with someone.

Thanks
Andy

I thought boats and ferrys were the same thing!
Anyhow, departure dates would be of use.
Possible sailing/train times as if I'm coming from Bath a 06.00 one is a bit of an early start.
This would also help others to have someone to ride over with as well.
Hotel option or is it camping?

I'm sure it's a typo & Albie meant Ferry or Train?

More info is given on Alan's original Belgium weekend thread here...

http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=27173

I'd suggest riding to the Kent area the day before, and either stay in a local B&B or kip at someones gaff overnight to avoid "silly-o-clock" start to catch boat/train?. I'm guessing Alan will create a more formal Weekender style thread for this event, once details are finalised & enough places have been confirmed?

Right, here's for being organised.

Booked my Eurotunnel ticket, £29 return ! for Saturday morning to Sunday night.

If you want to join me I'm on the 8.20 am departure on Saturday 20th and on the 9.50 pm departure on the Sunday night. (working on the basis that if I turn up earlier I can find a space).

Waffles, chocolate & beer. Not neccessarily in that order.

Albie
04-06-2008, 07:12 PM
Probs right time for departure there. That home time may be a bit early. I guess it would take at least an hour or 2 to get to port and a good 1 and a half for crossing and ride to home so around midnight.

I just had a look and is that return as when I put in date out and date back it totalled twice at £55. Gave me a 2 hour slot though. Need some times from others if we are aiming to travel together.

Grumpy

I'm pretty easy with the time, as the trip to the tunnel takes me about 2hrs max, although i would suggest a train at approx 8am going out as this would get us into sunny france as approx 9.30 there time, which means we miss the rush hour traffic.

Which satnav do you have... we should try and sync the routes by poi or something
I have a tomtom rider (not the new one) i did spot the other day you can add locations from google maps with a right-click to your gps device when it is connected to your pc

Phil ! I thought you were supposed to be hip and with it ?
Technology should work FOR YOU, you know.

Anyway. I've got a Garmin Zumo with All Europe on it.
I've thrown something in google maps that looks fine and it'll be easy enough. But I can't paste the link because it doesn't show the whole route. Basically, come out of Calais, turn south a bit, travel east along the smaller roads towards Gent, around Gent and on to Moerzeke.

Hip??????????

Last time I was anything approaching hip was about August 1971.

I too have a Zumo.....I understand from Sazza that they can talk to each other ....(hope they are polite !).....so maybe we can sort out a transfer from you to me in case the group gets split.

I actually do know how to use the Garmin.....problem at Arrow Mill was the handwritten postcode which I continually misread so the satnav would not recognise.....but I want PD and Albie to have their full quota of fun out of the situation ;)

Hi stafford logyks is stopping over night at mine in Herne bay so maybe we could meet for a pre trip drink/meal ? (plenty of room at mine and off road parking if other want to crash) also we could meet up on route to the tunnel.

You need to be at check-in 30 minuted before the departure time. I've found recently that you can run into a bit of a queue at the check-in gate and you should aim to be there an extra 15 minutes before.
If you miss your 30 minute window they'll bump you to the next train so always best to give you a little extra time. So for the 9.20 departure we must be checked in by 8.50, so we should be looking to arrive 8.30-8.45 realistically.

scrapps

ukmoc logo on front left, ducati logo front right, union flag on one sleeve and Belg flag on other.... if people want stuff on the back or names this can be done no problem, but I do think this would be nice as a standard shirt so we dont all have different colours and types(polo shirts in same coulours available) I think these will be £15/16 each. polos maybe 1-2 pounds cheaper?

Yes i think the flags on the sleeves worked out well, you can have ukmoc on tour on the back(a few have asked) and your name on it to. large logo across the back is £4.00 and names I think if small are £1.00.

Hi J.P not a problem mate,i was thinking maybe having just MONSTERS on tour on the back as the ukmoc logo is on the front(plus if we do some for the MOB it would not look odd)we could find a funky text or something for the back. just a idea.?

I mentioned before that I'm happy to set up a route to our Belgian B&B in Buggenhout on my Sat Nav. And Gary T, before you say it, avoiding any gravel roads.
I also suggested a stop into see Tyne Cot cemetary just outside of Leper for a bit of culture & history. It's pretty much on the country road route and I think would make a nice stop, sad, but nice.

As for routes, I can't seem to send the route from Google for some reason, but basically it goes thus;

Exit Eurotunnel heading East on the A16, before turning off after a couple of miles onto the D943.
Take the road south just past Saint-Omer and then turn East on the D933.
At the town of Cassel take the D948 to Steenvoorde and on to Poperinge.
Join the N38 to Leper.
At this point we could stop for a bite to eat somewhere (If anyone knows the town) then take the N313 eastward to Sint-Juliaan then turning off to the cemetary.
'History & Respect'
After that join the N303 to Westrozebeke before turning onto the N36 towards Roeselare.
Around the town to join the N37 to Tielt.
Join the N35 to Deinze.
Join the N43 towards Gent.
Before Gent join the A10 motorway heading south.
Turnoff A10 after two junctions onto the N42 towards Wetteren.
Join the N416 towards Dendemonde.
Go round the town and join the N17, turning off after a couple of miles to Buggenhout.

I believe the B&B is on Kasteelstraat, but not sure where on the road.

So, what do you reckon ???

Stuart42

Hi Justin

I'm up for a bit of culture so the stop sounds good.

J.P
09-09-2008, 12:55 PM
Google reckons about 2 hours for the first bit of the trip, without the stop in Leper.
I think a more direct route after that might be better, about 1 hr 20 mins on the more direct main road, rather than the country roads, which is about another 2 hrs, so we get to the B&B mid-afternoon.

yep, you just need to book yourself a slot on the train. Cheaper obviously if you pre-book your ticket but you can also just turn up and try to get on a departure.

Once on the tunnel train do we need anything to tie down the bike or on its stand is ok?

It's only the side stand for the train. You can hang onto it if you like, depends how bouncy your suspension in. It can be a little worrying to see it wobbling about.

Im all for the respect at the war graves. I was hoping you would suggest that. Lately Ive become so much more grateful for the lives our fathers and grandfathers have given us.
looking forward to it big time.

Hi folks, i'm happy to go with the flow when it comes to the route, a stop at ypre is fine, I tend to be a 'tail end charlie' when it comes to group riding, so an agreed route in advance would be sensible.

Ladybird, your bike will run fine on 'sans plomb' it's the french for unleaded.

Hi everybody,

The route to Buggenhout and a stop at the war graveyard... I think that Jan is coming towards the chunnel and pick everybody up to make a ride towards Iepr (war graveyard) and afterwards to Buggenhout.
Maybe Rosaline will meet everybody also nearby the chunnel...

Can somebody send me an e-mail with the arrival time of the group and also a phonenumber of the leader of the group so we can stay in contact?

Please, this is verry important so we can arrange something.

Have you contacted Guinness to check whether they'll count a trike?
