After fitting my new rear-sets I now have a whole on each side which needs filling (left-hand side has the old bolt fitted, as it's part of the sidestand).

It's the bolt hole just next to the brake - used to hold the stock rear sets in place -

Ordered this from Probolt - Stainless Steel Dome Head/Fairings Bolts M10 (1.25) x 25mm Ref: LSSFB1025F , which is the right width/length.

First part of the thread went in and then it's too tight, as if its cross-threaded.

I know it says dome head/faring bolts but all the measurement on the website are right.

Is it anything to do with the pitch? Does anyone know the right pitch???

If you take the new and old bolts and align the threads side by side, bolt heads at opposite ends, the threads should mesh together if it's correct. If they don't then it's wrong!!

can you not just compare the thread with the original bolt , is it too long for the hole ?

I've just got mine open to the elements

Right length/width etc. Think it might be the pitch of the thread. Standard is 1.5 and these are 1.25, which may explain why it tightens up so quickly.

No "may" about it!

That is 0.25mm difference per thread pitch!
