i have been talking to mario and leo from mob (monster owners belgium) five members are coming over for our weekender and i thought it would be good to visit them in Belgium, they are having there 5th Monsterday on sunday the 21st of september in a little town called Moerzeke next to a city called Deundermonde, its about 200 km from calais.
if anybody is interested in going for weekend or daytrip ? could you please post up, any feedback/thoughts would be good.

thanks alan.

If I can go via the tunnel and not the ferry I'll be happy to come along!

Barley know any of you, but I love Belgium. Any place where you get a menu of beer bigger then the menu of food is my sort of country!

I'm too late for the weekender, but would be very interested in taking part in this (Especially as I have holiday to burn this year).

Belgium for the weekend would be best. It seems too far for a day trip.
Camping? Nice hotel?

Count me in.

We may well be up for that, as we're sort of planning a bike trip in Europe around that time.

Could be nice to meet up with fellow monsterers while we're over there.

You can still book a place - should be able to anyway. I'd drop Didge a PM fella.

I could possibly be up for this, Alan. Sounds like a good plan.

tunnel sounds good, and faster than ferry, will check prices etc, was thinking of going over on saturday morning and returning on monday. the monster day is on the sunday so if want to spend the day it will be better to return on monday, people can please themselves, does anybody know of any reasonable priced hotel/motels ?

looks like we can get a good turn out

Saturday - Monday is good. Like many others I'd prefer to try the tunnel. Always taken the ferry before I everytime I wish I'd tried the tunnel!

Might take the friday off too and stop in a B&B in kent (Get's the dartford crossing out of the way for me).

Alan,

Could you ask what they charge for trikes? Ferries usually charge more for 3-wheelers (car rates) and was wondering if Eurostar do the same?

Cheers

I may well be up for this if work calms down a bit by then.
I've met Mario at Assen the last two years but sadly it conflicts with the weekender this year.

Have been looking at the tunnel again - think it will be my preferred option (HATE ferries but more to the point hate riding bike onto ferry and having to strap it down    ...) so for me think it will be Friday - Monday IF I can get the time off - or else a nice early start on the Saturday...Hope the late summer weather doesn't let us down :mand:

I've strapped bikes into the back of vans dozens of times, not had an 'incident' yet. Unless you get into pretty choppy seas, the forces that the straps etc. are put under in a van going round roundabouts and corners are way above what a ferry ride will put on them. No doubt someone will come along and say I'm talking bollocks but I reckon the chance of your bike suffering damage on the train is probably as high as the ferry.
(Unless you just don't like boats of course)

benson
28-05-2008, 06:27 PM
Don't mind boats to be honest - it's the riding on and off and diesel and generally being a wuss!!!

Most of us seem to prefer the tunnel and Im doing that. The original concensus was travel saturday morn and leave on monday morn. We need to get some names and preferences sorted on a thread.

Can't say for definate yet, but Roz & I would love to go.
Thanks Scrapps for the accomodation offer, the port is a long ride for us.
If we can go, it will be Sat / Mon via the tunnel.
Never done the tunnel before, but Roz also hates riding on & off the ferries, if it's wet the boarding ramps / decks can be slippery.

Norfolk line were brilliant with the bikers going over last weekend and it's a tad cheaper I think. One lot of bikes didn't even go up the ramp, although the few coming back did, plus they went on first so could ride straight up the ramp. I have put my name down but it maybe very last minute if I can go or not. I'm sure they could squeeze another in. I'm off to my fridge for a fruit beer now :o)

Extra cost not a problem - it would probably be just as much on the ferry

Like Yorkie, living in North Yorkshire the tunnel is too far. So we're getting the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam, then it's only 88miles over the other side.

Just checking that all that needed to have got their money back from the Eurotunnel mob. Finally got mine back in my last CC statement, but it did take a reminder from me to get it.

Yes I got mine back last month. I was thinking and saying to Slob on sunday about maybe booking next years accomodation for the next belgium weekender at the wonderful barn for hopefully more of us.:ukm::ukm:
