96 600 monster no spark, how do i test it out

I have a 1996 600 Monster that has not been started for about 1 year.
I have checked and it has no spark at either plug.
can anyone tell me how to check, pick up,modules and coils so i can diagnose it and find the problem without changing it all.

Check kill switch is in the right position (I know, but it has happened before)
Then borrow a Haynes book of lies to check resistances for pick-ups and coils, or see if anyone in your area has coils/relays (ignition relays are next to coils) to borrow to check with.
Its unlikely that both pick-up coils go at the same time, unless they have both been unplugged by mistake.
Use fresh petrol to re-start when you have a spark.
