Dear All - we have a lot of members who haven't logged in for quite a few months - and to be honest I think that if you don't log on for 6 months then the club probably isn't up your street - this is just to let you know that I will continue to do a bit of a tidy up i.e. losing members who haven't logged on since the end of June - I think that's fair or else I'm just a meany

Let me know your thoughts???

Benson

Does it make a difference? I understand if the database is getting too big but another way of looking at it might be to ask 'Are members required to log in to still be members'?

IMO 6 months is way to short 12 months at least
This sounds like CK's bloody soap box again

Is there any cost finacial or otherwise of having inactive members on the books?
If there is then I think it is right to dismember them if not then it would be nice to be recognised even after being away for 6 months

i'd say 6 months is ok, but why 12 Terry?

6 sounds ok, but why is 12 more up your street Terry?

I believe that these non logging on types should be dragged out of their comfort zone and shot, then forced to ride a jailingbing zxyz125 custom to hospital, and then have a non conformist termignoni fitted monster run them down, bah damn lightweights the lot of them,. or maybe just do as the pres says:hail:

James phoned me today to say he appeared to have been taken off. I'm not sure when he last logged in but he is in his last year at UNI (Chemical Engineering) and is a bit tucked up with exams etc.

Yeah - I'm happy for it to stay at 12 months

I understand the deadwood is trimmed regularly these days?

benson

No probs folks - only a suggestion!!! No soap box - no problem - 12 months it will remain. I have done some trimming of the inactive ie never logged on since joining but nothing substantial more than that - meanwhile anyone who disagrees with me will be shot at dawn...

I would say that 6 months is too short as well Rach, more like 12 at the least would be better

I agree I would say minimum of 12 months maybe 2 years would be a better cut off and then there is no excuses.

My missus rarely gets chance to log on these days let alone ride the bike.

How about sending an e-mail first, then if no response after a set time delete the member.

Pedro

right, this appears to be fixed now.

Whatever we decide about pruning the list, it should involve minimal work, not become a weekly task. Maybe prune every six months or so if the user has not logged on within 12 months.

Can we now talk about something else, I'm bored with pruning....

I agree that 12 months is more fair. There are some situations where someone may have to go abroad or be ill. Like our Lady Bob who post very little lately no doubt because shes feeling rubbish. I had not posted for 4 days last week which is amazing for me.

Not to worry about posting. I think Madam President was asking for views on logging onto the forum.
You may logon and not post and your account will stay alive.
A bi-annual cull of totally inactive members is good housekeeping. That would give some unworthys nearly 18 months before they are disapperated, depending on the date the work is done. I have no problem with that.

My member is pretty inactive. :( Still don't fancy having it pruned though.:worried:

How about sending out an e-mail then if no response delete the member.

Pen has been deleted:thumbsdown: she can not get easy access to UKMOC during work time and play takes up a lot of time too, but because I log on here she finds out all she needs to know. But she is the monster owner not me. She is now in two minds about re-joining after five years membership.

Nonnie

Well Kaysee I guess some are going to fall through the net but to keep a database of members who are relatively inactive is hard work and does not keep an accurate record of the club.

To send emails out to see if people still want to be members would be really really time consuming and I rather suspect Pedro and Benson would welcome someone else to take on that role?

.....keep a database of members who are relatively inactive is hard work and does not keep an accurate record of the club....

My thoughts....if a member hasn't logged on within a 12 month period, then they are removed. Period. Anyone who gets deleted in error should be in the real minority and hopefully will understand what we are trying to achive and support it. The current number of members in each county is totally unrealistic as regards live active members wishing to actually take part in club activities and communication. It makes the club more relevant and easier to manage. Go for it, is what I say!

benson

It would be straightforward to re join methinks - and if anyone else wants to volunteer to do the lists of different members and their activities then as Nonnie has said - please come forward!

I'm sorry but I think having to have ones activities put on a list in order to remain in the club is a bit excessive :look:

Look I wear a raincoat because its raining. Ok ? :o
