Have you blown your engine? What year is the bike? Is it covered under warranty? If you've blown it and its outside warranty, take it to Ducati and kick up a fuss, You never know, you might even get it fixed for free. Thats what I did when the rear subframe broke on my 749S. Should be a lifetime part and they agreed and fixed it even though the bike was out of warranty.

Much easier! Finding a 1000 engine is a mission in itself.

Yep - agree 100%

Cost wise it's a no-brainer... add in possible insurance or re-sale hassle

The pysical size of the engine & mount positions are identical I think, but the 1000 engine is dual spark, you will probably need the 1000 ecu as well?

See if you can look in a manual & check if the ecu & wiring loom part numbers are the same, it might give you some idea of what ancillary parts you will need.

The clocks & keys too - they are a matched set (with ECU) for immobiliser

It's worth checking the gearbox sprocket, chain, swingarm and rear wheel sprocket for alignment or clearance issues

Or sell the S2R & buy a 1000

a good workshop in London will charge at least £50 an hour.

Try the usual suspects - do a search for London dealers on here. Or Mike Dawson Racing (http://www.md-racing.co.uk/). He comes highly recommended from many Ducati people - here and other places.

He's straightforward and won't give you any b*llsh*t.

Why not go the whole hog and build one from scratch. I think Nattyboy had a complete (brand new) frame for sale recently. It would mean you can pay for it in stages, bling it up as much as you like. Once you've finished it you can sell the 800 and make a load of money. It would be a good winter project. Just a suggestion.
